How far south does the trough have to dig?

How far south does the trough have to dig?

Just from Water Vapor Imagery, the low currently spinning over Kansas appears to be trying to come south. How far does it need to go to pull Wilma north? Is it possible for Wilma to miss the trough altogether?

I've heard DT say that when the axis of the trough comes within 10 degrees latitude of the center of the storm, it will pull the storm northward.
