Me again,
I agree with Lynn about the lack of info depth relayed during the 11:00 local news. The 5:00 broadcasts were more helpful than the 11:00's! What's up with that??????????
Do you happen to know when Lee County may start giving out evacuation info for areas besides Sanibel, Captiva, etc? I have a friend who is planning to evacuate with us who is 2nd in command at the Hampton Inn in Bonita. (BB Road and 41) The hotel cannot close until they are given evacuation orders. Then of course she has to go through the process of shutting down the hotel and making sure all guests have left. It's very frustrating!
Thanks a million,
Linda

It just seems so unbelievable how vastly different the 2 counties are reacting! You might think Wilma actually knows where the Lee/Collier boundary lines are!
BTW...my dad's complex is on 41 whose northern edge is literally on the Lee County line. You can bet which county's actions he will be following!
Thanks bunches,
Linda

Thanks Kevin! I was hoping to see your posts! It's nice to have this thread to lean on a bit, and help us all to get through all of this! I live in Cape Coral, near the River and many Gulf fed canals, so I'm a bit concenred about surge. Even with CHarlie, we were flooded fairly good here. My husband was just ranting tonight about Lee County's plan of action...of you want to call it that. I was hoping that the lack of news from the local stations was a good sign, but I'm not so sure. At any rate, I'm sure glad this board is up! It makes pulling all my hair out a whole lot easier...lol

Kevin -
I just got up and read your 10:56 Thurs. evening post - thanks for
all the information, and keep it coming.
This is such a "harrowing" time for all of us - the waiting and not
knowing what to prepare for.
Again thanks and everyone out there keep our thread going strong -
IT HELPS A LOT !

Tracy,
Why did you board up so early?
Cause my husband is a firefighter in Collier County. He is on duty and we wanted to get it done just in case he wasn't home to get it done.

I am so sick of waiting and I am wondering if all this action isn't just plain over reaction.
Do you realize that I used Mortgage money to buy supplies? Do you realize my husband is missing at the very least 1 - 2 days worth of work? We can't afford that. The whole scenario leaves a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach.. just sick.
Other than Charley, ANY storm in the last year to go by didn't even give good old North Cape Coral a good rain. I know I should sound more greatfull, but when I think of it in terms of money lost and job time lost.. for nothing.. and it puts us further behind... it makes me mad.
No, I don't want death and destruction.. but a good wind and rain would be helpfull to make me feel justified when I call the mortgage company and tell em the financial news.
Kevin.. I respect your intelligence and I like your graphic. But, I just don't see Cape Coral getting anything out of a storm going south of me.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Kevin_Cho wrote:I'm not sure, the windfield is very large on this storm now, well not huge, but large. Hurricane force WInds extend up to 85 miles from the center, meaning areas 85 miles north and south of the point of landfall will have Hurricane Force Winds, if it makes landfall in Collier County, you're bound to have those kind of winds in Lee and Mainland Monroe.
Kevin Cho
I would guess you will have tropical storm winds into Manatee county.

Taffy wrote:Well, compared to Katrina and Rita that came through this season... how does this storm measure in size.? Is there a good side to the storm? Is there a dry side to the storm?
Perhaps that makes the difference in why I got squat out of them and Jeanne and Frances.
This is already covering a large area and should be even larger as it nears florida. The GFS is showing alot of precip on the N-NW side of te system due to interaction with the front.. The surge will be worst to the south.. so it looks to be messy for everyone. Intensity inland is a tough call at the moment when the landfall path and speed are so uncertain..This is a large cane now 170 mile swath of hurricane force now.. 400 mile for TS.. of course the wind varies a great deal in the individual quadrants..

Good map but I think all of lee county will feel the hurricane force winds.
Kevin, I just wanted to say what a nice map! I think that it is a very useful and user friendly visual, and answers many "what if" questions posed on the forum. Well done!

bucman1 wrote:If the tropical storms winds extend out 200+ miles Tampa is 1750 miles or so from Naples .
Wouldn't that put them in the wind field???
i had always thought of naples and tampa being that far away because of the times i have done the drive between the two (about 170 road miles or so).... so I thought I would take a quick look on google earth and they are actually about 130 miles apart using a straight line approach (from center of tampa to downtown naples)....
