Wilma Likely Back to Cat 5 Status

#1 Postby MWatkins » Thu Oct 20, 2005 11:43 pm

Not sure where this goes...but just looking at satellite imagery as of 0415Z...Wilma does appear to have regained Cat 5 status. The eye is extremly well defined and there is a warm dot right in the center. Recon is still a little ways away...but I sure hope they come in at 10,000 feet.

Going to be interesting to see what they find...

I tend to agree. Then again, I'm not agreeing with alot of the models. I'm not trusting the GFS/GFDL models at all with this storm yet.

Mike, sadly I have to agree with you.

Also it is still tracking right towards Cozumel and Cancun.

Looks that way. Plus, there's a patch of particularly warm water right in the Cozumel-Cancun area:

But if you look at the same heat content map, you see that the water is very cold just north-northwest of Cancun in the gulf.

This is very likely a cat5...She looked a thousand times worst this afternoon when they found that 150 mph winds. I think its closer to 165 to 170 mph right now. With pressures maybe below 910 millibars.

I disagree. Western semi-circle is still pretty eroded. She needs a bit more time yet.

Kind of makes you want to stay up for the 2am! I know 1/2 of you are saying, "well, its only 1 day tommorow" I could sleep Saturday. This is worse than drugs. At least with them, you finally run out of money!

No cat 5 according to recon. Maybe not even 150mph.

That was a northern quadrant pass including the NE quad. Pressure will be higher as well. Sorry, no cat 5.

Its not that I _want_ a category 5, its unqualified statements. There is no evidence yet for a category 5.
