September 12 1979 in Fairhope, AL. I was nine years old when Hurricane Frederic went up Mobile Bay leaving a devasting blow to the Eastern Shore. It is a night I will never forget for as long as I live. A night of horror and awe all at the same time. I am not sure what the exact winds were that night. I have heard they were over 110 in Fairhope. I am trying to find some info where they might have it.

It came ashore on September 13 with winds reaching 145 mph (over 230 km/h) at Dauphin Island Bridge, near the mouth of Mobile Bay. An hour later, it hit the coastline just west of Mobile, Alabama, near the state's border with Mississippi.

I've been in ALOT of hurricanes in my 29 years, but luckily never had to experience sustained winds of 110 miles an hour.

Unless, of course, you count my high powered gas leaf blower being turned at me!!!
