Loop Current

In the infrared shot, I see some deep reds firing randomly well NE of the center just north of the western tip of Cuba.

Could the loop current be supplying this energy?

Katrina&Rita went over the loop current and we saw what happened

That should be no surprise to anyone. The Loop Current is basically a conveyor belt for high TCHP waters moving from the Caribbean to the GoM. I don't think the intensification we will see will be that impressive, but the fuel is there -- it is the upper-level winds that are to be uncooperative.

there were no storms in the Caribbean since Emily so (no upwelling)that water got so hot so the loop current ran uninurrepted which allowed Katrina&RIta to become the monsters

Chad Myers of CNN just explained the "loop current" in his 6pm hour report. One of the best weather persons that CNN has for certain, in my opinion. He always says things and explains them and doesn't leave you guessing what he means.

Chad Meyers is a great met and does explain things quite well. Unfortunately he also has a very short temper as we all found out that one morning during Katrina!

By the way, what did he say about loop current?

He just said that it was the current of warm water that comes out of the Caribbean Sea and travels between Cuba and the Yucatan and does a little loop in the Southern Gulf before passing through the Florida Straits...really easy explanation and anyone can remember that easily.

And yes, he was the one who lost it with Miss Talkative Carol Costello during the coverage of KATRINA. I think it was just fatigue and I don't think he meant anything when that happened..all the same, it shouldn't have happened.
Nevertheless, I still think highly of Chad.

Brian Norcross just mentioned this loop current on Channel 4 news. He said WILMA will be going thru it tomorrow, and that water is still very warm. Also, Max Mayfield said the storm "could" be a major hurricane (3) on impact with the Florida west coast, however, he's hoping for a high 2. Of course, he had to say they do have problems with intensity forecast. So, I think it's going to be stronger than they are presently showing. Be safe all!
