Would it be advisable to board up here in Fort Myers? How about you Lee County members, are you boarding?

The latest GFDL model troubles me because it takes Wilma across us at the same speed as Charley. A bad situation could be setting up. Wilma is drawing people into a false sense of complacency with this stall. GFDL is saying the front will pick up Wilma and rush it towards us at high speed (22mph forward speed). This will leave little time for evacuation decisions and catch many people waiting until the last minute (if it occurs).

Pay attention to this!

GFDL is also saying 130mph in intensity at Florida landfall...

Ok, I'm getting quite nervouse now! I'm sitting here in Cape Coral in a 20 + year old duplex with a roof that still hasn't been fixed, compliments of Charley last year, no plywood, a 14 year old son who wants to watch the cane and a husband who is sick with MS. My sister lives in Clearwater and wants us to come there, but I'm not even sure Wilma won't end up there instead. Not to mention, I'm in a Cat 1 surge zone....What to do...what to do!

OK where is everyone ? I was out for a couple of hours - came back
and saw Nexrad's latest forecase - WOW . . . I am not liking the sound
of this at all. Add to that the fact that TWC crew is "moving north", and
that Max Mayfield said - stronger than thought - I am just before going
into panic mode now.......

I really don't feel good about anything I am hearing, especially since Ft.
Myers has now been put into landfall point. Sorry - guess I am spouting
off - seems like no one in our neighborhood is LISTENING.....

If anyone has any further word - thanks - Kevin what is happening in Naples
right now?

Could a miracle happen and Wilma go POOF???

Kevin_Cho wrote:Update: Collier County

THE COLLIER COUNTY EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER HAS BEEN RELOCATED! More information later, we're not sure why, but obviously they have found out something we don't know. My dad was on his way home and suddenly they choose to move the EOC to the Utility building. This either means they're expecting a worse storm surge than they originally thought, or something that we can't think of, because the Government center is actually one of the safest structures in SW FL, I don't know what would drive them out.

I'm getting reports of possible decisions to expand the mandantory evacuation area from Livingston Westward still, but reports are sketchy at best, we're still not sure.

Now anyway, the projection has moved a little northward from Marco Island to Naples now, directly over Naples. This is very serious because now Marco could be on the eye wall, this will likely completely flood over Marco. If any of you are on Marco right now, I urge you to leave now and get out. If you get the storm surge like this may bring, the entire island may be flooded, completely.

Tracy:

We're going to stay here tonight and pack up the van and head up there in the morning after a good night's rest,. Of course, we still have more to do here- one more trip of essentials to our Bonita home and still have to bring in the porch furniture, etc. Are you still staying home?

Just talked with my son in Punta Gorda where his family took a hit from Charley. Said they are going to ride out Wilma unless she becomes a Cat. 4.

Shuttered up yesterday here in Cape Coral... just fininshed boarding up friends homes today... Tomorrow morning, going to finish up my weather station for monitoring, but will likely sacrifice my anemometer to Wilma (hopefully not).

Heard from family there that no evac notices have yet been issued for Charlotte County -- but that was about 3 hours ago.

The relocation of the EOC is nothing unexpected, they occupy the first floor of the Administrative Building on the Main Campus of the Government Center, which is just over a mile or so from water. Don't read too much into the move, we've all known storm surge would be a huge concern with any direct hit from a TS or higher.

Stay safe everyone!

Hiya!

So what did I miss the past 3-1/2 hours? I thought I was going through withdrawal in the car being I couldn't check in with y'all!! LOL..

Seriously...anything I need to know??

We're here...outside of Orlando safe and sound. The trip was completely uneventful thank goodness. I-75 and I-4 were extremely quiet. Makes me wonder where all the people are! I guess cuz we had so much notice, evacuations happened very gradually. My guess is lots of folks are planning a quick escape once the recurvature begins.

My internet connection is very slow...but I'll try to check in as often as I can.

Stay safe everyone,

Linda
