Local stations here in the Cape have landfall that appears to be south of here. I checked my GPS in my truck and I'm located at 26.34n and 81.59w. The NHC has it at 26.3n 81.5w in 36hrs.. Just wondering whats up with that. Why dont they show it like that? By the way thats near Veterans Pkwy and Skyline Blvd.

First of all. Thanks for checking in Linda. It sounds as if you made great time. Now-just stay safe!!!!
MJ, I am at 26.2 (26.18) and 81.5 (81.49) and live just barely south of the Lee Co line, 1/4-1/2 miles from the Gulf. It puts me 5.3 miles from CPA in 38.5 hours (and counting). This has been fairly consistent for the past 36 hours.
Tracy, if you want to call I think you have my numbers so don't hesitate. We'll just be sitting around a motel room, hopefully with internet access. I forgot to ask if they have a generator. Somehow, I think not, as there is no elevator and we have been hauling everything up to the second floor. No wonder, I hurt so much.
We'll this time tomorrow should be interesting so I'm off to bed. Good luck to all and stay safe.

We are in the same boat. We are supposedly at 26.22 and 81.78 according to the Collier County emergency web site. Bottom line is that our house is a mile or so south and east of you, but our conditions are likely to be very similar (except for surge since you are on the water). Hope all of us stay safe and dry. The next 12 hours are going to be interesting.

Me again...
Going to try to get some much needed sleep. However, now that the boarding, packing up of the house and the "evacuation" are complete, thoughts of what condition I might find not only my house, but in our beautiful city as well are constantly filling my mind.
It's so surreal..........

Just walked to the beach. A lone tree frog was sitting in the middle of the street looking bewildered. A rabbit ran down the path to the beach in front of me.
It was calm earlier this evening, but now just the slightest wisp of east breeze is detectable. It is hurricane humid considering it is October.
The moon's light was just visible behind some hazy clouds and a thin hazy cirrus allowed some bright stars to shine through dimly.
We just have some final packing to do tomorrow morning and we are out of here. We considered staying for a Marco hit or south, but the wave potential graph quickly cleared my mind of that notion. Just some porch plants to be pulled in, clothes thrown in suitcases, load the car, and go.
The WINK TV weatherman showed a special model they use at the station and it took Wilma right over Sanibel.
Tomorrow morning should give us a good idea on final evacuation moves...

just flew into ft. myers today at around 1 pm....
this place is kind of empty for once.... sort of like it.
what i don't like is storm surge:
anyway, the major windows get shutters tomorrow and everything on the lowest level will be brought up to the main level tomorrow. then we're going inland (airport area). fun times.....

Good Morning from Golden Gate Estates. I just posted this in the another thread, but I'll put it here too......
I have a question(for the locals who know where this is) about the surge/flooding and how the recent canal closures in the South Blocks of Collier County will affect the overall scenerio. Do you think the canal closures will make flooding better or worse?
All the canals that once funneled water to the gulf have been filled in for Everglades restoration. The south blocks span from I-75 to U.S. 41 around Badluck Prairie and of course east to Fakahatchee State Preserve or as the locals call it "The Tram Rd". Anyway, all those that know the area, know the amount of canals that were out there. Now that they are cut off, I'm worried about what the water will do.

It is imperative that we finish preparations in Collier/Lee, Naples is still in the bullseye (about). Residents of Marco really must get out.
The only thing I'm suprised about is how the storm hasn't restrengthened yet to a Category 3 hurricane.

Good Morning,
Nothing going on here in Orlando...Feels so strange having such an intense level of activity grind to a halt! Such a helpless feeling to know many of your friends and some family are there without us. Will venture out later to get more food supplies for tomorrow and Tuesday. As of last night, the local stations were talking about possible hurricane force winds and tornados that would extend over multiple hours.
How is everyone doing? Kevin...any new updates?

The board seems a little quiet so far this morning ?
We are trying to watch TWC and local channels, but not much so far,
which seems a little of a surprise to me. Guess everyone is waiting
to see in the next few hours if Wilma strengthens or changes track?
The waiting and wondering is the worse thing - - hope we don't have
any surprises.
Kevin - what is the latest on Collier Co.?

GFDL model has gone way south to the south tip of Florida.
TWC track has been adjusted south too.
Depending on the next few hours I think we are going to stay and ride it out.
The storm isn't intensifying and is obviously right of track. I think Alpha has something to do with it.
Alpha is definitely keeping Wilma weaker. I keep telling people this on the board and they keep ignoring me.
I expect the track to shift more south today...

We'll be leaving in about an hour or so. Last night they said evacuations had been pushed back to noon and that was what we were counting on. This morning they are back to 8 a.m. Too late now. We're packed-just a few last minute things like showers and clean out refrig!!! Hate to take down the computers too soon. What a way to celebrate my 60th. Best birthday present is if Wilma pulls her south and doesn't strengthen.
Hope to be back on line this afternoon albeit on a dial up.
