I'm in the Cape too, and from what I'm hearing our biggest concern is near the River and the Yacht Club. Where in the Cape are you?

I wouldn't bet on that. Even a Cat 1 coming in below us, can be a bad senerio! were you here through Charley?

Well, you'll be on the weak side, but it's not going to be pretty. This isn't Charley which was a dot in comparision.

Charley was a 'dot' ????? He was compact compare to Wilma but he did MAJOR damages.

I don't think so Kevin.

A category 3 into Everglades City will bring Wilma's weak side across Sanibel nearly 60 miles to the north. I believe the storm will have trouble getting the west side winds around at 25mph+ forward speed. I would expect maybe 60-80mph winds on Sanibel in that case.

I'm still here. It's humid as heck and you get a sweat from going up stairs only one time. There's a slight breeze from the east.

The sky is different today with broken overcast and darker patches. Loose banding is visible in the overcast. There are some white spots where a hint of cracks into hazy blue sky are visible - but those are closing off now. Friday looked more ominous. The overcast is not moving. Strange for a storm that is supposed to be picking up speed.

I'm going to wait for the next few hours to see if any upcurve more NE occurs before evacuating. Traffic is clear here. The island is as dead quiet as I've ever heard it. The only thing you can hear is the whirr of air conditioners. If even the slightest sign of upcurve-turn occurs I'm gone. Otherwise I'll ride it out if it moves into the Glades on the GFDL (as it presently appears to be doing).

There were egrets in the pond this morning.

GFDL is 60 miles plus to our south...

First low-level rainband type clouds and a short light rain.

Broken bright overcast in between rainbands.

Darker to SW.

Birds are here. Woodpeckers, Great Heron in pond, Kingfisher, Frigate Bird hovering at coast.

Can be ready to leave in 15 minutes if necessary. Everything packed and ready.

Storm still looks for Everglades City. Outer core is still wide though.

HUMID...

Dry slot and bright overcast just opened up to SW out over Gulf. You can even see patches of blue sky through the haze.

First winds hitting us now. Enough to move the palms, but still minor.

Waiting a while more. Looks a little north for comfort right now...

Sanibel -

Watching your post and Jay's - mostly. We have decided to stay
at home and weather the storm, I hope that is not a mistake.

The thing that scares me, is the possibility everyone keeps talking
about of a Cat 3 at landfall - AND - of course, not know exactly where
landfall will be. From what I am reading, I fear it will be tooooooo close
to Ft. Myers for comfort.

Any thoughts?

I think you need in go inland. The island is not a good place to be even for a cat2

Just on the news "the first time in Cape Coral's history people are being asked to leave." Evacuations put into place
