Not officially - we'll know for sure at the 3 AM EDT advisory, most likely.

I agree, there's no rain on the west side.....just a solid wall of water!

The advisories are usually in by 10 minutes before the hour. This one is coming in a little late.

They'll go with 130mph. Borderline 3/4.

Why is the convection on the east side so much weaker than the west side? The east side should be the strong side (all else being equal). Interaction with land?

135 knots flight level just found. This is very likely a cat 4 now.

Latest recon measured 134kt, even better than the 130kt measured 15-20 mins ago.

I know why the advisory is late now... they want to make sure cat 4 winds are actually present before they upgrade it.

Could be because of interaction with the trough, that the convection is increased on the N and W. They have been saying for a while it would be the wetter side, while the S and E side would be the windier one.

Cat 4 would really going to shock and terrify some people. Could mean Cat 3 winds for major SE Florida cities.

Sorry for anyone in the path of this thing, but thankfully it looks like it will come ashore in a relatively unpopulated area. This thing goes just north of Tampa, we're taking a major disaster considering how quickly and unexpectedly this thing strengthened. Lots of reports of people not taking this one seriously.

We are getting pretty heavy squally weather with rain coming in at a steep angle from the east. Sustained winds about maybe 30-40 mph with gusts. This is going to be very, very bad for our friends south of here.

I found water coming in my bedroom window to the east. I live in a 1920s house and had caulked all my other windows that had leaked before, forgot about that one. I found myself hanging out the window trying to make rope caulk stick in the driving rain. For 3 a.m. it's particularly hot and humid.

Anyone who needs to secure old casement windows, rope caulk works great. It's like Poli-grip for windows ;-)
