WOW Miami lakes taking a beating!....

Cosmetic damage? I see the media saying it's not so bad, not alot of structural damage. Miles O'Brien pointing at broken glass on Las Olas. Duh.
All hospitalsin three counties on generator. Three airports, one a major closed. No phones: land or cell, no power, boil water etc. Soon gas will really be at a premium. Port of Miami closed. That is a lot of gas that cannot get to the pumps.
No fresh food or water to three highly populated counties.
This may not LOOK like Biloxi but the damage to the infrastructure of the major economic engine of the state was greatly damaged. Three counties where ninety plus percent are without power?
I cannot reach anyone of my family there. How is this "not so bad"?
I really don't care what the finally "Cat" is. Does it matter?

But i suppose i am a little biased with my anger toward peoples inability to understand wind levels, and their forces. If this had come in as a 125 over us... there would have been 4+ times as much damage. Roofs gone, etc.

Until someone has seen CONCRETE structures LEVELED like in andrew... its hard to explain.

Sorry if that was missunderstood. I agree the impact on the area was TREMENDOUS, just that i am trying to say it could have been soooo much worse had this been stronger, or simply brought the winds that the news media were hyping and advertised. And thus misunderstood by the general public that EXPECTED 125mph in downtown miami. ???

I see what you are saying Eric, the public needs to know that Cat 1/2 and even strong TS force winds can cause a great deal of damage, especially if they last for a long period of time. I can see your concern for the public thinking they had Cat 3 winds when they really Cat 1/2.

I have finally gotten out of the house today (trying to save the half tank of gas I have. Yes, I filled up, but Wilma took her sweet time getting here) and made it over to the east side of Miami Lakes, where I presume you are located based upon your pictures. All I can say is "WOW" is right! I'm on the West side, the newer side, and we have nothing compared to the damage I saw there. I wish I had my camera this morning. I saw a trampoline in a tree, trees on top of houses causing considerable damage, and most (if not all) metal and wood electric poles snapped in half or leaning. So much for the beautiful tree canopy that was there! I was in the Lake Patricia area, as that is where I used to live. Unbelievable. And no power yet over there. I really thought that Katrina would have taken care of all the weak structures and trees, but boy was I wrong. Looks like a bomb went off.

Simply amazing! I'm wondering if school will get going on Monday like officials hope.

I have to go to the Marian center to chainsaw some ficus trees leaning on their building today... but if anyone needs any help with their trees i'll come over and cut them for ya.

Also miami lakes has positioned a few acres for tree dumping and has 100+ 18 wheeler dump trucks with cranes that are removing the debris to the mulching site at such and amazing pace. Miami lakes is putting miami-dade and everywhere else to shame.

I'm still going to get the video and rest of the pictures up as soon as I can.

I saw a FOX in my backyard yesterday, lol I live next to shulas golf course, and it must have lost its habitat and was confused.
