The Saffir/simpson scale was designed for wind damage, not for surge.

I was being sarcastic. As to show my stance on Katrina not possibly being a 3.

Those winds seen in the video from inside the lobby. At the peak when he tries to say the hotel us gutted. That is like Charley.

Well...the surge was 30 feet because the Cat 5 winds over the Gulf of Mexico rose it up and then the surge smashed in. Just because it had a Cat 5 surge does not mean winds were not able to be of Cat 3.

You know who really cares if it is a Cat 3 or Cat 4 at landfall. The thing that matters is a lot of people along the coast lost their lives, their homes, and everything they have. In three different states people lost everything.

And showing the video, which I thank the person who posted the link, it makes everyone aware what the storm surge can do. No one in Alabama imagine that the storm surge would be as bad in Mobile and along the Eastern Shore (Point Clear, Fairhope, Daphne, and Spanish Fort) and a lot of people lost a lot including their houses and businesses. Fortunately there were no reported deaths that I know of in my area. Unfortunately that is not so to the West of me though and that is what matters. Not whether or not you think it was a marginal Cat3.
