Let's Pause for a Moment

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sat Oct 29, 2005 8:48 am

Those folks in CentralAmerica will get a strong hurricane but mainly the torrential rains will be the main cause for a disaster in that part of the world as we haved seen in the recent past with Mitch and Stan.So let's pray for those people that will be in the path of Beta and hopefully nothing tragic occurs and definitly we dont want to see a Mitch or Stan kind of tragedy.

My prayers go to the people who live in Nicaragua,Honduras,Guatemala and El Salvador.

Luis,

I'm very concerned about this situation. The infrastructure and construction is much more vulnerable and I can only hope and pray that the people in harm's way will be able to make it away from the area that will be most severely impacted.

Already some reports from Isla De Providencia are of extensive damage but the reports are very few.

I am so glad you started this thread Luis.
We tend to forget how deadly these storms are to the poor people of Central America who often have sub standard housing and a poor infrastructure.
We can only pray that the death toll and destruction will not be too high.

Is there any place a Hurricane has not hit this year?

This is nuts, its seems like every area of coastline in the Atlantic has been destroyed.

Pray for all these people along with the rest of the areas ravaged by Hurricane Season 2005.

the Leeward Islands and Canada have been let off easy the last 2 years, along with south America (though Ivan did kill a few in Venezuela)

Well Canada had Juan in 2003, which was the worst hurricane to ever hit Nova Scotia.

The current track map of SLOW progress across the high mountains on the border between Nicaragua/Honduras, and moving west, is the worst possible scenario for this area! Hurricane Mitch, 7 years ago, exact same time of year, wiped out 80% of the infrastructure of Honduras, with an estimated 30-40 years to completely recover, since many bridges, etc. were still not rebuilt after Fifi, 25 years earlier. And most of the damage in Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Savador was done after Mitch downgraded to a tropical storm. Entire towns buried, over 9,000 people never accounted for...

Beta continues to get stronger nearing cat 2 as I type.I suspect that we will recieve bad news from that part of the world next week but I am an optimistic person and I dont believe that we will see a Mitch type disaster however we must be prepared for the grim news and that is why this thread is created for the members to pause for a moment and pray for those poor people of Central America that will suffer badly from this.

Ditto the thanks for this thread Luis. Like Mexico south of Cancun and Cozumel, we in this (oh so close) part of the world will likely never know how bad the damages will be...and whatever they are will be so much worse, and for far longer, than some of us can fathom :( I still can't wrap my mind around the disasters, including the horrendous earthquake, that we have had this year so far.

Prayers going out to all of those to be affected by Beta. I feel so sorry for those people who do not have the resources that we do to help survive the storm and it's aftermath. We've been complaining about lack of water and power, etc. after Wilma but we have it GOOD. We had homes to go back to and family we didn't have to bury or entire communities wiped off the face of the earth. I for one am thankful for what I have (and also for the wonderful people on this board who can think beyond their own wants and needs).
