Y'all think that DST screws you up? I lived in Delaware County, IN for a few years and they don't recognize the time shift.

As a result, they spend the summer months on Central time and the winter months on Eastern time.

Ticked us off as kids...in the winter, the TV shows were on too late for us to watch and in the summer months, we wanted to be outside playing later than the re-runs from the winter played.

As an adult with young kids...I can see why it never bothered my folks.

If for example it is 12:00 Midnight in Puerto Rico then from sunday when the time changes the east coast will be at 11:00 PM EST.When New Years come I always see the Times Square ball drop here on TV at 1:00 AM.

So you will be ahead of us. :P

That's what's I thought.

Yes I was somewhat confused but yes Puerto Rico is one hour ahead in the winter months. :)

Interesting note too... the NHC advisories on tropical systems will come out an hour earlier for those us in the U.S.

10am, 4pm, 10pm, 4am EST. It'll technically be the same time since Zulu doesn't change.

That's going to take some getting used to(well hopefully not).

We used to say in the VI's that we don't change the clocks because a)everyone is already an hour late and b)no one would remember to do it anyway and by the time we did, it would be time to change it again 8-) Pretty much the same here.
The rotten part is remembering the ones who DO change their clocks, mainly for phone calls...not home from work yet? oops! it's MIDNIGHT? sorry!

As a Mom, I'm actually thrilled the time will change.
It has been almost too dark in the morning for my son to ride his bike to school.
I'll feel a bit better for a while that it is lighter in the AM.
I do hate that it's dark at 5pm, though!
At least it's safer for the kids to go to and from school.

I know I'm gonna have a real issue with the later change.
(yeah, by then my kid will be older.. but there will still be young children walking along streets in the dark!!!)

Oh and it may screw up trick or treating on week nights, to keep DST longer.

So then what time will tonight's 2am advisory come out in EST? Will they call it 1am or 2am?

Yes, but we turn the clocks back from 2am to 1am, so we effectively have two 1am's, and, almost two 2am's. My question is do they keep the old time or new time for the (2)am intermediate advisory?

It'll come out at 1am EST, or 2am old time. The time tonight will go 1:59am and then back to 1am, so the advisory would come out then.

But what about tonight's advisories on Beta? Will it be 1AM or 2AM? If they write the advisories up at 1:59, the real time would be 1:59AM, but 2 minutes later, it would be 1:01AM. So is tonight's 2AM advisory on Beta going to be 1AM EST or 2AM EST? I know the later ones will be 1AM EST. Also, will it be the 1:05 AM TWD? They usually write it early... have they ever forgotten about DST?

1am EST. The second 1am. So technically it'll be written at almost 2am...

Not sure about the rest of that.

Wow you guys think way too hard about this.

AST/EDT = GMT -4
EST/CDT = GMT -5
CST/MDT = GMT -6
MST/PDT = GMT -7
PST/AKDT = GMT -8
AKST/ALDT = GMT -9
HST/ALST = GMT -10

It's not that difficult...Beta will come out at 1 AM EST (GMT -5), since it had been coming out at 2 AM EDT (GMT -4). Same goes for the TWD. It will come out at 105 AM EST (GMT -5) since it had been coming out at 205 AM EDT (GMT -4).

I had that part figured out.

:P

I just wasn't sure about the TWD since it doesn't specify Zulu time.

Now I have a headache. Did I mention I hate Standard Time?

Actually, in the Tropics it doesn't make sense to go to DST because the sunrise/set times don't change that much over the year.

They don't... do they? I know Hawaii doesn't observe DST.

On sunday at 2 AM EDT it starts so set your clocks before that time.In 2007 the daylight savings time expands as link above shows.

That's awesome! Daylight Losing Time (as I like to call it) will be shorter once 2007 rolls around. That's a good thing, because I hate those early sunsets.
