Maybe I'm just cranky, but until you can fully explain the genesis of a tropical cyclone, a number 2 in the center of its eye (one of the world's most incredible phenomena) will still amaze me. ....Even if it was just some clouds that entered the eyewall which our mental perception transforms into a familiar object...still a wonder.

Wilma also had a 2nm wide eye at one point
is there anywhere on the web i can find larger archived radar images of wilma?
I have them, but they show no 2.
The thing is it's just a coincidence. Images from many different radar stations put together and formed into a composite (used on TWC and news stations) are not accurate, they are just used for a big picture of things. I like to use individual radar stations more instead of a composite. In reality, the true rain echoes really did not form a 2. If I could explain it better then you'd get it, hopefully someone can.

I hate to disagree with you, but the "2" was easily seen on the KAMX radar data by itself, not on any composite. I am about to post a picture and will edit my post when I do.

Conspiracy theorist will love this one.
I must say its an amazing image. I believe its left over from the inner eyewall and related to mesovortices.
You can really have fun when you throw in Wilma did have a 2 mile eye and that 2 dozen callers reported it. To top if off throw in NBC2 as Tampa stated.
All in all its a stange coincident indeed.

Yeah, the "2" is actually a little more pronounced on the TV station's image, likely due to them using a different format or color scheme than I am, that is picking up even the lowest reflectivity values around the periphery of the "2", making it look more complete. Nevertheless, the "2" mesovortice is and was visible from the KAMX radar. It is possible that it was viewed from surrounding radars as well.

I was just about to add that local stations generally pick up the lowest reflectivity, including a lot more clouds and stuff, not just severe thunderstorms and water vapor. thus, that probably solidified the mesovortice arrangement, in combination with human perception which connects the dots and associates it with a familiar symbol.

OK...I see now, I thought it was the Key West radar. What a weird coincidence indeed! Well then in that case I don't have the file.
