My most impressive one has been Isabels with those many mini vortices.

Yep, I knew this poll was coming.

I love these kinds of polls, my favorite part of tracking hurricanes is their beauty, whether it's the eye or the structure.

And these polls are the hardest for me, but I went ahead and said Wilma.

Anyone remember 90L's eye? :darrow:

For those who are a little weary from this season and don't remember some of the early goings-on, this is pre-TD8's(Franklin) "eye." Impressive for a wave. :D

Seriously, I voted Isabel. Nothing beats 5 perfect vortices.

A large eye on a semi-annular hurricane like Katrina or Rita really makes the storm look small. Katrina and Rita were much larger than Wilma at her peak, but Wilma looks a like a huge storm (Typhoon Tip style) because her eye is small.

I call them semi-annular because they don't have extensive outer bands.

I think Katrina had one of the most perfectly symmetric, incredibly cold CDOs I've seen in a while. That storm was incredible when it bombed out in the southeastern/southcentral Gulf of Mexico. Rita looked very nice as well (as would be expected with a <900mb Cat 5), but I don't think it's CDO was quite as symmetric as Katrina's. Wilma is inherently impressive because of it's incredible intensity, but it didn't seem AS symmetric as Katrina. The eye was so small that vis sat imagery didn't capture it too well (including MODIS/Rapidfire imagery, which usually provides beautiful images). So, with all that said, my vote goes to Katrina.

P.S. -- has anyone noticed that the "Post Reply" and "New Thread" buttons on the bottop of threads are switched? For example, if you press "Post Reply", you get the "start new thread" screen, and vice versa for the "new thread" button.

I agree. Actually for me it was tough to say Katrina or Wilma. Out of all the Cat 5's this year, Rita was the ugliest.

For the eye was too small problem with Wilma, perhaps this satellite image will resolve that issue:

Compare that to Rita and Katrina:

No way man. Satellite imagery of Wilma at its peak was beautiful. And don't get me started on how cold the cloud tops were.
