Surface low forming per Miami NWS

#1 Postby rainydaze » Tue Nov 01, 2005 3:00 pm

This is a snippet from the Miami NWS afternoon discussion....does this mean anything as far a tropical development is concerned?

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
244 PM EST TUE NOV 1 2005

.DISCUSSION...THE MUCH ANTICIPATED RAIN SHOWERS ARE ACTIVE ACROSS
SOUTH FLORIDA THIS AFTERNOON...ALONG A WARM FRONT THAT MOVED OVER
THE AREA THIS MORNING. SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGERY ARE SHOWING A
VERY ACTIVE SYSTEM ALONG THE FRONT OVER THE SOUTHEAST GULF OF
MEXICO...AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS FROM THE KEYS AND MAINLAND SOUTH
FLORIDA HINT OF A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM FORMING IN THIS
AREA. BOTH THE NAM AND GFS INITIALIZE WITH THIS FEATURE AND BRING
NORTHEAST ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH THIS EVENING. LOCAL PRECIPITABLE
WATER VALUES ARE PAST TWO INCHES ONCE AGAIN. GIVEN THE MOIST TROPICAL
AIRMASS...THE FORECAST FOR THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS CALLS
FOR COPIOUS RAINFALL AS THE SURFACE LOW MOVES NORTHEAST.

Not really, especially with it going to be moving over Florida this evening. Probably just a squally evening.

No tropical development with it already being embedded in a front.

I'm not looking forward to the rain, though, what with all the roof damage around here.

... agreed, and in addition, from the nws/eyw discussion, a strong(100kts) subtrop jet overlays sfla from the nw bahamas sw to the dry tortugas....mucho hostile aloft............rich

Lots of rain is expected for South Florida, and it's already occurring. That's good news for those still without electricity but bad news for those that lost part or thier entire roof.

Send the rain to St.Petersburg-
Wait- it's starting to rain. Yay! It's been so dry here lately.
Everyone wish more heavy rain on me so that the rain hits me instead
of anyone who already got hit by Wilma in south florida.
