How much do you listen to music, how important is it to you?

Andy - glad you like it! It was a college radio station for years, out of Oxford, Ohio near Miami University. Always cutting edge, new music. And more importantly, local music. But they had a weak signal. Sometimes I could get it here at home, with a boombox, if I turned the antenae towards the north and put it next to the window. Don't laugh! In the car we could get it if my car was facing a certain way, make a turn and you lost it. So everyone who loved this station wished they could have a stronger signal. Then of course the owners sold it. Wanted out of the radio business. Now it's owned by others and Internet only. I miss hearing it in the car! And for some odd reason, it's hard for me to get into music here at the computer, my kids like it though. I just need to implement it.
One neat thing WOXY always did was back announce. That is so important when you hear a brand new band's first major hit - their name! Not even sure they do this.....

It immediately went in the CD player......when I listed bands they're into, I should have included GD. GD is almost always at the top of their list.....can't believe I didn't mention them. Nirvana too (Foo Fighters also). This list could go on all night!
Do you have your ticket stub from that concert? Were you close to the stage? Get to meet Billie Joe? That is just too neat.....now I'm impressed!

Oh, it was wonderful .... what an introduction to live music! I did get to shake his hand, but that was about it.....I was so little and shy...

I wish I had the ticket stub, but there werent any tickets....LOL! It was a really small place pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and it must have been -20 degrees outside, so there werent more than maybe 150 people there. It sure hooked me on concerts, thats for sure...

I LOVE listening to music, but I do go in spurts. Sometimes I'll have my radio/cd on at work or in the car and sometimes I don't. I do enjoy the quiet. I have an IPod that I'll listen to when I'm outside working or I'll have the ITunes downloads playing while I'm on the PC. Right now I don't have it playing. It just depends.
I love Classic Rock and Roll, Motown, R&B and Soft Rock. There's occassions when I listen to Classical as well.

American Idiot is a great album by anyones standards, though, and its great to see a band you knew "way back when" do so well and grow so much.

Goose bump moment for me, reading your post. And then a huge sigh.....that is just too cool to say you saw GD before they made it. Lots of Cincinnatians saw the Strokes at a small club, right before they made it. But I wasn't there......dang it! I really can't say I've seen a band when they were starting out that became very famous. I'm sure you are so proud you can say this. Peter Frampton lives in Cincy now and he's frequented many local, musical events I've attended. He was mere feet from me, but then I was never really a fan of his! That's about it for my musical celeb encounters....LOL

I don't listen to a lot of music, but here at the keyboard I play music that fits my mood or relaxes me at the end of the day. If we're working around the house, Kathy and I will kick up some country or oldies.
Depending on the situation, I'll play Christian, country, contemporary hits, oldies, or "elevator music."
Music speaks to me.

There is not one day that I don't listen to (and usually sing along with) music...from a cover of an oldie in a movie or commercial, to Muzak in a restaurant, or listening to my playlists on this PC.
By "sing along" I mean the second or third part...my vocal range has always been baritone, and I have been taking the bass line since before first grade (in fact, the nun told me I HAD to sing "melody", because so many of the kids were tone-deaf that I was throwing the class "off").
FI, the movie "Dodge Ball" has two covers..."Different Drum" (originally Linda Ronstandt and the Stone Ponys) and "Red Rubber Ball" (Cyrkle); when I sang the bass line, Coppertop asked me how I knew the music(?).
Important? Like breathing.

LOL @ Duckie....
I did think of someone famous that we saw in concert, right before he got a big recording contract - John Mayer. He performed at a local outdoor musical event called Jammin' on Main. We were close to the stage too. That was pretty neat that just months later he was making the rounds on Letterman/Leno, on the radio. I would tell the kids - he was right here in Cincinnati, pretty cool.

It is helpful to let you all know that my family's full of artists, musicians and actors...it's "in the blood", I guess. Yet, at the same time, the very same family members have all served in combat service...go figure.

I listen to music when ever I am in the car, doesn't matter if I am just going to the grocery store or on a long trip. When there is nothing on TV I want to watch, I turn on the radio or play a CD. I usually listen to country because that is what I listened to as a kid, my parents had the radio on in the kitchen everyday. I usaully play a certain artist CD's when I am in the modd to listen to CDs.
