Did Frances go through an ERC while in the Bahamas?

#1 Postby Jim Cantore » Fri Nov 11, 2005 10:47 pm

I was wondering because I saw the attribute I have commonly seen with ERC's this year

Eye collapses and is replaced by larger one

However the Steady weakening and long amount of time it took for the eye to reopen make me question it

what do you think?

I believe Frances did experience an ERC in the Bahamas also upwelling caused Frances to weaken since it was moving anywhere from 3 to 7mph over a 48 hour period.

Upwelling makes sense Ophelia had the same issue

However I would think Frances would have had more of that problem when she stalled

What probably happened was an ERC coupled with big time shear that hit her at the same time. This caused a severe disruption of the inner core, that she was just beginning to recover when she made landfall. The slow movement didnt help much either, however it did help her over the Gulf Stream.

Seems like the whole 3 days before landfall she was... while she sat, and sat, and sat. I remember people asking about 2 things:

A. When her ERC would finish and

B. When she would move
