GALE WARNING FOR THE WESTERN AREA

Please be aware, wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the
averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.

SITUATION
At 1200UTC tropical low located within 30 nautical miles of
Latitude four decimal one degrees South [4.1S]
Longitude ninety three decimal six degrees East [93.6E]
Recent movement south southwest at 4 knots.
Maximum winds 25 knots.
Central pressure 1003 hPa.

AREA AFFECTED
Within 60 nautical miles of the centre extending to 100 nautical miles
in southern quadrants.

FORECAST
Low may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours
causing clockwise winds 30/40 knots, rough to very rough seas and
moderate swell.

Central pressure 997 hPa.

40kts is 74kph making it a category 1 at the moment. (Although using the sustained winds is only a guide for this). Forecast to stengthen to a cat 2 in 24 hours.

JTWC has just issued a TCFA but here the official word comes from BoM (Bureau of Meteorology, Australia).

Note the winds in the official advisories are 10 minute averages, although for the scale it is the gusts that count.
