PLease DON"T Tease Texas

#1 Postby ETXHAMXYL » Sun Nov 20, 2005 5:17 pm

One saying is Don't Mess With Texas but also don't tease us. Last night on a local Dallas channel one met was teasing us with a change for next weekend. I am assuming he was referring to a chance of rain and possible cold. I hate it when they do that and get our hopes up. This one guy loves to tease us about 14 days out and usually he is always wrong. One thing for sure, Troy never leads us on like that.

Most people are hoping for snow, well I'll take rain any rain. The last rain was with hurricane Rita..and Ive forgotten when that came ashore.
So any backing to what this Met was Teasing us with? or was he just trying to keep up his weather ratings since most people are not watching since the forecast are dry and warm day in day out.

Nope, don't think your on-air met is teasing. All of the medium-range models -- along with our own S2K expert Don Sutherland -- are advertising a pattern change to begin next weekend. Colder and wetter for Texas (and the southern Plains in general) from that period into early December.

Yes, we are desperate for some rainfall.

Yeah, it looks like going into December things could get interesting in the southern plains. There might even be some wintery weather as far south as the I-20 corridor by Dec. 10th, and we could see freezes all the way to the Gulf coast, including Houston and possibly even further south. Things look like they will change within the next 2 weeks..in a big way! (or at least that is what current model trends are hinting at..I hope they are right).

I agree. The fact that the forcasted cold seems to be waning, could mean that the models are rushing things. Cold air takes longer to arrive than forecasted. Might be better to let the cold and snowpack build a little more before we plunge into winter.

Don't believe your local NTX mets, all 4 of the major channels, ABC, FOX, CBS and NBC missed the forecasted low last night. All said don't expect a freeze tonight, well that was CRAP, it's 36 right now at 8:24am and when I woke this morning both of my bird baths where froze over and the temp was 30 degrees.

One met on ABC gets so excited about the long range forecast if there is any type of change he goes on and on about it even in the little promos during commercial breaks. I know last winter he kept teasing us with "Boy folks we could see a MAJOR Winter Storm here in NTX" Made it sound like we were going to get a big Noreaster or something like a Blizzard. What happened Nothing, not even cold, then he always had some excuse like "Well folks if this hadn't have happened we would have been snowed in for days...Yada Yada Yada" Wonder how much hate mail he gets from the local kids when the snow doesn't come that he has talked about for 2 weeks in advance?
So Capt. What is your take on this possible change in NTX the first week or two of Dec? Looks like some of the guys on here seem to think that we might be looking at something coming down in that time period. We certainly could use some rain, if it happens to be frozen well all the better just as long as it is wet and lots of it.

Well what was once looking like a cool thanksgiving is now just the opposite. Our highs Thursday will be running close to 80 degrees! Not going to feel like Christmas at all when we bring the christmas tree home on Friday  .

Well there hasn't even been of hint of winter weather down in Austin, except for a few chilly days. In the next couple of days it is supposed to get up to 80 or so. It is crazy. We need rain like crazy.

I personally would like for summer like weather to shut off and winter (which I know doesn't officially start for a month or so) to kick in. I would love to have some winter precip down this way. But I know the chance of that happening is probably nil.

Oh well, back to day dreaming.

Now they (local Mets) are talking big change this weekend with possible t-storms...Is this our big blow away summer temps and usher in some colder weather?
Hope it blows the leaves off of the trees or else it will look like a green Christmas.
Is that Big Change to winter still in the outlook for the second week of Dec.? What do Y'all see in your Crystal Weather Balls? Will Santa come in Shorts this year? LOL :layout:
