Which do you prefer Turkey in the oven or Deep Fried?
I tried deep fried and it is all that like a heart attack.

Of course, there is a call for goose or some of that fine Galveston Duck served up at Thanksgiving (avain flu notwithstanding), but I prefer the traditional bird.
Hmm, duck for Thanksgiving, I would have never thought, but then again it is the south...

Frying turkeys makes a mess, though - yuk.
Lol, sunny, southerners don't know how to cook clean. If you do it the right way, it is almost as good as KFC..

Sunny, I know that. I have fried turkeys twice and have never left a mess.

I just really hate cleaning up that peanut oil.
Okay, that is a whole different story. Peanut oil is the worst to clean up because it is so freaking thick. I agree..
OMG, I agreed with sunny.

I do both, it just depends what kind of mood I'm in, and if I've got the extra $30 bucks to spring on some peanut oil!
Here's a list for the "Oven" crowd:
10. No one burns down his deck/garage/house by roasting a Turkey.
9. It's safer for the children. We must always think of the children.
8. I already have an oven. I don't have a turkey fryer.
7. The oil to fry the turkey costs more than the turkey.
6. Stuffing
5. Women prefer the oven. Cooking the turkey is a woman's job.
4. Many people who choose "frying" have someone else do it. That's cheating.
3. Frying is too fast. Turkey cooking is something to be savored.
2. No fire extinguisher needed for roasting.
And the #1 reason to roast, not fry, that Thanksgiving Turkey --
1. The aroma of Turkey and Stuffing in the oven is the best aroma on earth.

Oven.
We have a peanut allergy in the family so a deep fryer with peanut oil would definitely be out. Not to mention, I'd be freaking out with the possibility of a major fire. Each Thanksgiving there is at least one local story of a family whose garage/deck or God-forbid house, burned down b/c of a turkey fryer.
No thanks, I'm a traditional cook! Heck it took a lot for me to trust those plastic cooking bags years ago!!!!

The best of all is a smoked turkey sitting on the smoker all night and morning on a low, low heat. It was the best tasting and juiciest turkey ever! My grandma always does the bird in the oven for turkey day though. One year my uncle fried it instead of grandmas oven baked, it was excellent as well. I like a smoked bird first, then a fried, and lastley an oven baked.
