All my daughter wants for Christmas
is her 4 wisdom teeth pulled
She came home Saturday night complaining of a toothache and i peered in the booze breath mouth and saw her upper left wisdom tooth poking out of her pink gums. Got her into the dentist this morning...pick me up of the floor please....it'll run me $1800 to have her 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Plus there's $800 worth of itty bitty cavities. I've got to get all them pulled...she may be 18 but she's only 4'10" and 91 pounds. I think her wisdom tooth i saw is bigger than her!
Please weep for my bank account this holiday season!

I fI ever have to have my wisdom teeth out, I will need major oral surgery. I have what the dentist called impacted wisdom teeth.. He showed me the X-ray that showed my wisdom teeth are buried upside down in my jaw bones. I have often wondered why my wisdomn teeth never gave me a problem as I got older, now I know.

Dang, Kathy, it really hurts if she felt it over the booze!

J/K, but, I had all of my wisdom
teeth pulled and got the dreaded "dry socket"...I guess
ignoring the "NO smoking" rule must have contributed?
I hope your dentist allows monthly payments - mine lets me
do that for all of my glorious crowns, bridges, etc., etc.!
Good luck - and God Bless!

I only had 2 on my left jaw pulled. I need the other 2 pulled, but just did want to run up the bill to over $1000. $500 was enough to pay off. The one on my right upper jaw never came out at all. Not enough room. So, they will have to put me to sleep to get out. I am never going to that oral surgeon again. He was very rude to me. He knows I am a big baby when it comes to pain yet he had a nasty attitude about it. Even though he numbed my mouth up during the procedure, I could still feel it. He got part of my tooth caught in my socket and part of my bone was exposed. I flinched and ended up kicking him by reflux. Did not mean to. But, he yelled at me over it making me more nervous. After the procedure, after spitting up blood for 2 hours, I was fine. Running around like nothing happened. The real pain came 2 days later as I was drinking a cup of Campbells sippable soup. One of the noodles got caught in the socket and I was unaware of it. When to work that evening like usual. And then the severe pain hit in my jaw. I was stuck at work almost crying because of the pain and the dentist office was already closed. Luckily, we were pretty dead that night at work. I could barely drive because of the pain. I had to wait until 8 the next morning to see the dentist. He had to suck out the food and put a medical patch on it. Pain went away instantly. But, he fussed about me getting the noodle stuck in there.

I just checked my Cigna Dental Care brochure (we just had open enrollments). These are estimates but my wife is a Hygienist and she looked these over and thought they were pretty accurate.
* Removal of Impacted Teeth - partially bony --- w/o coverage $292, with coverage - $65. This is per tooth
* Extraction, Erupted Tooth of exposed root -- w/o coverage -- $106, with coverage - $5
Just for your consideration. You dentist sounds high!

I keep telling my 16 yr old daughter - the dental field (family, oral or orthodontics) must pay very well.
She'll probably end up majoring in another field but she does admit, from the high bills we pay, denistry wouldn't be a bad idea! Only problem she says is - you have to work on people's teeth! LOL Teenagers.......
j - all dentists are high I've learned. Unless you want to risk going to a dental school. I don't know, that just sounds way too painful and risky!

I should add, that the figures I showed for "covered", as with any "great" insurance, Cigna states that the surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth is only covered when the tooth is diseased, and is not covered for orthodontic reasons.
I'm just glad I don't have to pay for any of my dental.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I had Blue Cross Blue Shield comprehensive care. I think the out of pocket was around $47.
However, I should have sued the doctor for thousands. But that's another story.
