I have good news and bad news....

Good News.. I have a date of departure! Middle of Jan... I'm completely off of orders in mid Feb!!! Than back to being myself in my normal elements. Anxiousness has kicked in already and I still have about 50 days left.

Bad news... I will not be able to access S2k starting Nov 28th... they have to shut down our dorm network for security reasons. Poppysky is the POC for me... if you need anything from me or if I want to say something here for everyone, he'll be able to post it for me.

Thanks for all your support :D :D

Shannon :)

Shannon,

Now is the time NOT to be counting the days...just do the job, ever more watchful and ready. I still remember "short-timers" from my RVN service ("How 'short' are you?" "I'm so 'short' I can jump rope under a snake!") who were SO anxious to get their PCS CONUS flight out that they made sophomoric mistakes...things they'd never have done otherwise...that cost their lives.

Stay focused on "mission", and you'll be OK. :larrow:

We are so proud of what you are doing over there. Take care. :D

Bill, I'm not really counting down the days... I have been forewarned not to do that. 1) it makes the TDY seem longer 2) it can cause mistakes because you are not paying attention to the job at hand.

Yes, I have a circle of freedom pie chart (everyone here does)... I check it about once a week if that. (It tracks all the day countdown information) I know when I'm leaving Al Udeid I tell people just that. They figure the rest out.

In my position I forecast when everyone is going home... I know approx the date they are leaving and on what mission. If I focus on my date, it really doesn't help the other people getting home...it would seem greedy and selfish on my part (not to pass along the information to them.)

The ever-vigilant Poppysky will manage the mail for our Pojo once she is placed in the "out-of-touch" mode. She can run silent, run deep, but she cannot go unnoticed for long!

Fifty days? You take care each and every one of them.

One of my employees, a reservist as well, brought me his orders indicating 500+ days. He has been home twice thus far...from Afghanistan. Arrived there late spring of 2004.

I'm running now to check the mailbox. No snow here to stop me, you know. Anything new from Pojo yet?

I'm still in the office yet. Nov 28th we are supposed to loose the dorm network (yes, dorm network... yea, we are spoiled).

I have to work on Thanksgiving... nothing to special to celebrate here. The chow really doesn't seem like a traditional Thanksgiving meal.... just the daily (I can't believe its edible) food. Christmas will probably be the same way.

Need to sign off early today... I have to work at 3 am tomorrow morning... have a rotator plane to process at 5:45am.

As for counting down... I'm counting by weeks... it makes the TDY go faster and the count seem shorter. But I can only do so off duty hours... don't want to interfere with the job at hand.

We'll all be happy when our Shannon is HOME, and, we'll
look to Poppysky for the latest info leading up to arriving
home safely!

My doc at the office wanted me to work Friday.

"Well, ummm....ok....half a day....I can." I always have
things to do, i.e. calling in med refills, archiving tests
onto floppys or CDRs...etc...etc... I did good to get off
on the actual Thanksgiving Holiday.

Then, today at at our weekly staff meeting, he decided
that, because he won't be there, someone should be off,
tomorrow....wooooo-hoooooo!!! I'm off tomorrow and
Thursday...work half a day on Friday, and, off the weekend!
Tomorrow was a surprise - I love surprises!

I'm leaving some KK's, including chocolate ones, so that
David and Crouton can fight over them. Anyone else....
....Good Luck!

Hi all - we have a new driver in the family! That's right, Laura at 15.5 has her temps. As if my life isn't busy enough......we have company coming for Thanksgiving, my oldest coming home from college for 5 days and Laura's driving. And oh yeah my favorite band in the entire world, is reuniting for several shows in the Cincinnati area. No they are not a well known act, should have been though......Dee Bee knows who I'm talking about. So come Friday night, I will be a fan (groupie at one time) again. Wait, I'm always a fan! Throw in some Christmas shopping, driving my college bound daughter back to campus on Sunday (no Laura will not be behind the wheel! She jokes she will be) and by next Monday I will be wiped out. But a good tired. Even though I'll be dog tired next week, I hope they call me into work. I haven't been asked to work since Nov. 4th! I'm seriously considering calling my supervisor to make sure all head cooks (9 total) have my phone number. Thought I'd be used one or two days a week, at least, by now! Which is frustrating......I need the paycheck.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

FANTASTIC, Mary -- Knock yourself out at the Psychodots shows! You are and always will their Number One fan. I wish I could be there with you. :D

I'm sure Laura's driving will be a real help for the holiday season, too, not only for running errands but also saving you time from driving her around.

I know how you feel about missing that (small) paycheck, Mary. I chose to take a break from teaching this term, and even though my adjunct pay was pitiful, "pitiful" has begun to seem better than nothing. My dept. head called yesterday to see if I'm going to teach next term. I really could use the $ to help with post-Wilma landscaping repair, and I can write my own schedule if I return; but the commute to Ft. Lauderdale and the administration's attitudes remain negative considerations. However, as of yet, I haven't had any nibbles on an adjunct position closer to home. I have to let my former college know by Nov.30.

Today is pie and cake baking, plus any prep I can do such as cranberry sauce and pre-boiling yams for the souffle. And, believe it or not, I'm actually going to dust off the iron so I can press the table linens (wait -- someone better check my temperature...)!

And, yikes! -- I woke up to a wind chill (yes, we get them in SoFla) of 45! I know, I know, most people would consider 45 warm for the day at the end of November.... But without a furnace, and considering my 2-story home is completely tiled, it's a little nippers here! But it's also absolutely glorious to breathe in that crisp, clean air instead of being slapped in the face with the usual sticky heat. If we could count on sunny and 65-75 for six months of the year, SoFla would truly be paradise!

So I'll just cozy up to the stove for a minute here and suck down one more cup of coffee. I brought some freshly ground Einstein' Bros. (the bagel people) Holiday Blend and a loaf of my famous Cranberry Bread and a tub of whipped cream cheese, if y'all like a post-breakfast snack.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, my S2K family. I'm thankful for each of you!

Sound like the buzzing of the holiday season is whipping through S2K. About the same around here, trying to get this house clean in preparation of the decorations going up this weekend. Not much cooking going only one dish to prepare for the dinner tomarrow. :D

Dee Bee, cranberry bread? Hum never tried that. I think I will take a slice and give it a whirl. I reallly would like to try some of that one day. It is definitley chilly whilly here today, feels great right now at 2:00 it's 60 degrees. A welcome visitor for thanksgiving. :D

Mary, have fun with the new driver. I remeber when I got my restricted(thats what we call it) and seeing my the look on my moms face, while I was driving. My dad had to take me out most the time, my mom couldn't handle it. She would get so nervous. Wasn't long though and I was driving like a pro, and stealing the parents car.j/j......kinda

Happy Thanksgiving to all, enjoy all your family and friends, and eat till ya can't eat no more. lol. :D

You're close.....the psychodots are in town (actually they all live here, but my favorite song of theirs and hence my email addy, is simply Artichoke!).

It showed today, we got an inch or more. Very pretty, all the trees were covered. Laura looked out the window and I said - don't even think about it girl....LOL OTown/Kelly - I actually like it when my oldest steals the car. I'm such a homebody, give me a few hours to get chores done and I love it. Or time to bake! But like your mom, I am not good at instructing new drivers. We both have 5 speed cars too. I got very nervous with Nina, I'll be the same with Laura. Already she's said - I want dad to teach me. Mom's get stuck with the grunt work - diapers, baths, etc. when they're little, I'm only too happy to pass this duty off to hubby....LOL Once they're on their way, then I'll ride along.

Dee - good memory...just scrolled up to see your reply. #1, that's so nice but when Rob teased me once about it, I said now wait I am #12 or something aren't I(behind wives, kids, parents)? He said oh okay, you can be #2. So that's what I dubbed myself.

David - hubby knows all about my fan days - he created this situation. Long, long time ago, when we began dating, he popped in a few cassettes of a previous incarnation of these musicians, called the raisins. Didn't take long and I was hooked and by then they were the Bears, then the psychodots.....they should have been famous. Well, one of the Bears is, sort of - Adrian Belew, if you've heard of him. He's in King Krimson, has played with Bowie, Talking Heads, etc.

Amy - quick note and back to cleaning....company coming tomorrow:

When I was attempting to teach Nina how to A. drive and B. master a stick-shift, I kept pushing in my own clutch, along with my own brake.....of course my car is not equipped with such extra devices, I about wore a hole out on the passenger side. "Nina, push the clutch in, Nina, slow down, Nina STOP!".....we laugh now, but I was terrible at this. I think I'll stick to baking, sewing, cleaning and when they ever want to know about gardening, I'll throw that in too. Just not the car stuff!!!! LOL
