SHORT-LIVED SUBTROPICAL DEPRESSION TWENTY-TWO FORMED ON 8 OCTOBER
ABOUT 450 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA FROM A NON-TROPICAL LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM. THE CYCLONE MOVED NORTHWESTWARD TO
WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AND SOON DEGENERATED INTO A LOW PRESSURE AREA
ABOUT 250 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA EARLY ON 9 OCTOBER.

The above from the october summary from NHC.

What is at the list at their site may be an error as it was subtropical but at post analysis they can change that.

A much-anticipated Dennis report is now up.

$1.8 million in damages in the U.S.
41 direct deaths - 22 in Haiti, 16 in Cuba, and 3 in the U.S. (2 in Florida, 1 in Georgia)
12 indirect deaths in the U.S.

I smell a revision coming in the future. It doesn't include any other damages or indirect deaths in Cuba and Haiti, only the direct deaths.

Thankfully, that's not a lot of damage, much lower than expected anyways. This doesn't include the extensive Cuba damage though.

Whoops  my mistake.

Still, not as much as I was expecting, but still a devastating hurricane indeed.

Yes. I was looking at photos of the hardest hit areas on the panhandle. It seems like the areas that were hit, were hit very hard.

Actually, even your typical cat2-3 hurricane this decade usually causes at least $3-6 billion in damage (ie, Jeanne, Frances, Isabel, Floyd, Opal, Fran, Georges) Obviously, Dennis was no Ivan, but it looks like he wasn't even as bad as Opal. That might be because the Panhandle is already wiped clean of beachfront property.

Hmm... well it looks like Dennis was just the weakling of the entire pack in terms of damage and pretty low in terms of pressure at landfall. I mean, back in the day of regular landfalls on and only on the NC Coast most of the time (back in 1996-2003... Isabel, Floyd, Fran, Bonnie, Bertha, etc. were the big names), the big storms always just raked in 3-6 billion in total damage. Dennis seems to have made less than even those, which all hit the same area (destroying the same things over and over) and had winds of a typical Cat 2.

Dennis caused only about 2 billion dollars because it hit the Ivan-destroyed area. There is no question this will be retired.

Dennis needed to be retired as soon as he struck Cuba.
