I think it would have been useful to ask those posting their opinion to also post their age (or approximate age). Another 14 year old is going to think it is just fine also.

Personally, if I find my teenage daughter posting on myspace or xanga she will suffer a power outage lasting longer than she can imagine! ( no tv, computer, telephone etc).

Personally, we have banned myspace from our kids. Mainly because we've read what their friends post on their own My Space accounts. These young girls are posting sultry, sexy pics of themselves, lying about their ages, and posting all the sexual favors they give out...yada yada...I see the majority of the kids around here missusing and misrepresenting themselves and thats dangerous. Most kids are on my space without parental consent, (the ones I know) and its just bad news...not My Space itself, but how its being missused by the younger folks. I am using my comparisons from the 12-17 year old kids we personally know, and whoes accounts we have viewed.

On the other hand...its a great tool to see what your kids friends are REALLY up to, and see how they present themselves when they think no adult is watching....

For now, we remain firm...NO MYSPACE or an other like site for our 13 and 14 year olds...PERIOD.

First, thanks for the input everyone.

Furry, your observations are the closest to what I'm seeing. The teens I've seen try to be sexy and clever. It's the whole junior high try-to-be-cool thing.

I have it locked out with the Internet Explorer content advisor, and hopefully the desire will fade away. He needs to concentrate on other things -- like homework!

What a concept!
