Which NHC forecaster is the best?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:06 am

All are very good but my first choice is Stacey Stewart who in my view is the best because he does the discussions with many detailed information and in a clear way.My second choice is Avila which does shorter discussions but goes to the point.

As far as forecasting, they're all quite good. As far as their discussions, Stewart if you enjoy detail, Avila if you prefer brevity. Everyone else is somewhere in between.

I'd have to go with Stacey Stewart.

I've met some of them and while I do not use their forecasts for any decision making, I have seen that Avila seems to be the best one there

Tough choice, but I voted for Avila. My respect for his work has been growing steadily over the last couple of years.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Stacy Stewart on numerous occasions this past May, and even Max Mayfield. However...all the forecasters are the best.

Gotta throw a vote in here for the always quotable James Franklin, if only for this year's-

SO FAR...THE 2005 HURRICANE SEASON SEEMS TO HAVE LITTLE INTEREST IN CLIMATOLOGY.

I have to agree with Luis on this one. I have met Franklin and enjoy his discussions too, but I think Stewart is the best. As Mike said, they are all very good, imo.

Franklin is pretty funny. Stewart's discussions rock my world! Avila, well in the past I didn't like his discussions but they've grown on me. They're usually to the point.

Stewart is the most detailed by far, followed by Franklin, Pasch, and Beven (in no particular order). Knabb's and Avila's are the most concise. It almost seems that Avila has been the person that has the most influence on Knabb, since their discussions are very similar. In fact, while Wilma was over Palm Beach, Knabb wrote a discussion just one paragraph long (and it wasn't a special advisory package).

All of them are very skilled and experienced in their work, but I have to vote for Stewart.

And BTW I created a similar poll and thread a month ago IIRC.

Who wrote that discussion that graphically detailed what Katrina would do to New Orleans once she hit?

I think that Katrina forecast was by a National Weather Service forecaster out of New Orleans
