College station is now reporting LIGHT SNOW!!! They were only forecast to get freezing rain, but not snow! That is encouraging for us here in Houston. ALSO Brenham, TX is reporting sleet. Temperatures in the 30s are getting closer and closer to Harris County so who knows what is on the way for the overnight. It is currently 45 in North Houston, but it is starting to get a little windier as the arctic air mass begins to move in. Below is the latest report from College Station (NW of Houston):

My sister lives not too far from CLL (B/CS/Navasota area). I have a call in to her to confirm these conditions. She and her husband are those annoying people who screen all their calls w/the answering machine, so i had to leave a message.
She also has a very bad habit of not returning calls promptly, so can't guarantee I'll get a confirmation tonight.

Arctic front moving SE through SE TX. Numerous reports of mixed precip. falling across our western and northern counties.
Freezing and now frozen precip. being reported at several reporting stations. Brenham has changed over to sleet and snow in the last hour and just got a call from Sealy saying light snow is falling. Both College Station and Giddings have been reporting a freezing rain/sleet mixutre for the last 2 hours.
Based on winter weather radar and surface obs. of frozen precip. as far south as I-10 areas along and N of a line from Katy to Tomball to Conroe may experience a sleet/snow/freezing rain mixture after midnight. Winter weather advisory will likely be extended to include Austin, Waller, and Montgomery counties shortly.
Very minor ice accumulation is possible on bridges and overpasses, however even a very small amount of ice can be extremely hazardous to drivers.

temps are falling into the middle 30s across many areas of NW Houston. It is now 38 at Hooks airport. Areas to our NW and W are currently reporting light freezing rain/drizzle, and some snow flurries. This type of weather will probably reach NW Houston after midnight, and could even near Houston by morning. No major accumulations are expected here, but to our NW over a tenth of an inch of freezing rain is expected on roads. It is also windy outside, and by morning wind chills should only be in the teens. Brrr...

I wish the front would hurry and move through here so we could dip below freezing tonight but it's not gonna happen. I wonder why the temperatures in Austin fell below freezing during the day with this front but we're only supposed to get down to 34 tomorrow night? The interesting thing is we have a 20% chance of precip tomorrow night. Maybe a stray ice pellet or snow flurry possible in these parts?
I definately think those in Houston might see some frozen precip later tonight and into the early morning. Keep your eyes open over there!

Wow! What a front! We went from about 60 at 4PM to almost 35 as I post this and we'll probably be close to freezing before midnight. Ah, A true blue norther.
Looking at the GFS on the Accuweather site it looks like we could get whacked again right before Christmas. One of our on air mets said so much himslf tonight by saying if you don't get whacked by the freezing temps now, you will in 10 to 14 days!

Didn't the Austin NWS say there was NO chance of freezing precip this week in a forecast discussion just a few days ago???
