Northeast snow storm

#1 Postby pgoss11 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 5:40 pm

A heavy snow warning was just issued for north west Providence county. Should be a wild commute tomorrow with near white out conditions for a 3-4 hour period. At least the storm will be in and out of here in a hurry

I'm sorry...

Well, the bad part is that I have to drive to work this morning and the it has already started coming down heavy. Everything is covered. I'm definitely taking the main roads after I almost got into an accident the last time this scenario unfolded.

Oh man, the 5PM commute home is going to be QUITE interesting, that's for sure.

Snow coming down very hard now- about 1-2 inches per hour at this rate. Looks like a snow globe out there- just beautiful!!

we've changed over to rain here after ~4" of HEAVY WET snow -- the snowfall rates earlier this morning were definitely impressive to say the least.

12PM here...

Heavy snow continues...visibilities no more than 1/4-1/2 mile...

This storm is crankin right over southern NE. Intellicast radar shows that almost the entire state of RI is in the rain...man, we are on the edge!

I don't know exactly how much has fallen here, but at around 7:30AM we already had about 2 inches on the ground after only 2-3 hours of snow. And the majority of this morning it has been heavy snow with occasional periods of moderate snow.

Some just told me that this is the worst conditions she has seen in the 2 years she has been in Worcester.

The commute home this evening is going to be ugly...

8"!

the wind is now blowing the snow around, and from my office window it looks like a cool white mist is blowing around the Capitol.

1PM...

The tail end of this storm is really producing some wild snow right now. And now the winds are picking up...this is the real deal.

Had mostly a wintry mix until about 7:00 when it had finally turned to all snow. I didn't chance driving an hour to work, though the Jersey shore was pretty much all rain.

I HATE ice.

Ok, visibilites just dropped to less than 200 feet...it's a virtual white out in the city right now. I can't even see the building across the street clearly...

Yeah, that coma head was legit. Those white-out conditions I was talking about lasted over an hour.

I don't know how much snow we got here because, no surprise, there are drifts. I have anywhere from 7-12 inches depending on where I put my 18-inch ruler. So I'm prepared to average things at 10 inches, which isn't too shabby for a 10-hour storm.

Photos to follow soon...

91, when I saw that dark band developing over southwest NH around mid-morning, I knew you guys were going to be coming in with some serious totals.

I love the forecaster's comments.

New England did get hit harder than us. I would've loved that instead of ice!

By the time the sum went down, there was still some ice on the tree limbs and some of my evergreens were sagging from the ice as well. Fortunately, no power outages or we would've been up the creek without a paddle!

All I have to say from Boston... is this thing went from nothing to crazy in a few minutes. Snow fell in the morning, changed to rain around noon, then back to snow around 1. After that, all hell broke loose. Lightning everywhere, heavy snow, no visability. Gridlock in Boston for hours, cars and buses spun out everywhere. In all the years of Boston living I have not seen something go from not much to insane like this before.
