What station do you get your news from nationally?

#1 Postby wx247 » Mon Feb 10, 2003 9:03 pm

I couldn't figure out how to do the poll. I guess I am just slow, but anyways I was curious as to which station you go to get your national and/or breaking news.

I spend a lot of time online researching for numerous comm. classes and as a result I get a lot of my information from the Associated Press, Reuters, and UPI. However, when watching the news I tend to watch MSNBC. They seem to be less biased than the other 2 networks.

While I watch MSNBC the most, I also watch the other 2 networks (CNN and FOX NEWS) and I was just curious as to which channel you most frequently watch and why.

Ciao!

The best is Fox news channel as they have extensive coverage from around the world and they have both sides of an issue of importance.

The best anchor all around TV is Fox channel's Sheppard Smith by far. :D :D

I am curious about this issue as well. It appears that with the ratings of Fox News Channel being higher than the other two (CNN and MSNBC)... that most here would rather watch the Fox News Channel.

I heard (on Fox News Channel's "Fox News Watch") that CNN beat them [and MSNBC] in the Columbia Shuttle Tragedy coverage.

I enjoy Sheppard Smith as well, although I tend to have a slight beef with FOX NEWS being "Fair and Balanced", but I do enjoy Studio B in the afternoons. Am usually too busy to watch the FOX REPORT.

My fav would probably be Linda Vester though.

FOX NEWS WATCH is probably my favorite show on cable news. It really provides a nice commentary on the coverage of news.

Usually ABC or CBS...used to get FOX until my local cable company pulled it from the basic package.

I really like Fox News Channel's style.

Linda Vester may have had her baby, however, E.D. Hill from "Fox & Friend's" had her baby this morning... my mother said Steve Doocey said it on the air during this morning's broadcast.

Eric, that's strange, annoying how cable companies add cable networks and then take them away. :x

When things are poping in the world it's hard to beat CNN but Foxnews is good also. I always watch ABC in the morning just because I like Charlie..

Yes, ever since Charter Cable took over Telecable here in Roanoke Rapids things have gone downhill for customers/subscribers. :(

I do enjoy GMA, too, M-F before going to my part-time job. :)

I'm a CBS person. I worked at the CBS station in Green Bay, and well, I developed a notion for CBS.

Yes, Fox did beat out CNN and MSNBC on the Shuttle Coverage...they had constant coverage of the Shuttle Columbia's disintegration upon re-entry.

FOX NEWS

CNN and MSNBC are too left-biased. I prefer to hear both sides of an issue and Fox News is truly the only "Fair and Balanced" one.

Plus I really enjoy their style...they're a fun and lively bunch, but just as serious when appropriate. A very unique style that is hard to explain...especially Fox & Friends.

Interesting e-mail a friend of mine just e-mailed me a little while ago. He has been doing research on bias and has found this information:

NBC NEWS: Liberal (left) bias
ABC NEWS: STRONG Liberal bias
CNN NEWS: Liberal bias
FOX NEWS: Conservative (right) bias
MSNBC NEWS: Moderate; occasional lean to the left

CBS NEWS: The most unbiased source for news at the present time.

**I am not for sure exactly where all his info. came from, but this looks pretty accurate to me.**

Any guesses why FoxNews is so popular?

Simple...people get views and information there that they can't get anywhere else!

The others, by comparison, are "UNbalanced"; they seem to cater to the "elite" Coasts at the expense of 99.4 % of the country, so where do we go? FoxNews!

I respect your opinion but boy do I ever disagree with some of your friend's research! CBS News is extremely left biased as is MSNBC. I nearly always watch Fox News when I want news and often just leave it there while doing other things around the house but I occasionally watch CNN and MSNBC if they are discussing something I want to hear. I can never leave it there long though. Their bias constantly shows. It's hard to take. It's as if they think their viewers have no minds of their own so they must tell them how to think.

And as CBS goes, I honestly don't watch it in the morning so I am basing my opinion on the CBS Evening News which I see often enough because I prefer the local news that comes on CBS.
Anyway, CBS Evening News has Dan Rather...need I say more???

Ok, on to Fox News. They are not conservative at all. It's just that compared to the other left leaning stations, I guess unbiased reporting may appear that way. (I don't know how else to explain it.) I'll be honest here...I am conservative and I am constantly disagreeing with people on Fox News. BUT I also agree with people on there too. They give both sides. I would have to assume that since most people for many many years have been used to left-biased reporting that when "fair and balanced" reporting comes along they, some of them may perceive it as conservative.

Anyway, if you enjoy those other channels, go for it.
Fox News is still #1 :D
