simple brief explanation of gfs

could some one give me an easy to understand explanation of how to read the gfs basically what line means snow

My understanding is that the 540 line is where freezing temps start.

The 540 line is TYPICALLY the rain/snow line... but not always.

The 540 line is the southernmost blue one. :)

That value only works for the areas east of the Rockies-for the West Coast it takes a far lower value for sealevel to low level snowfall.
