If Katrinas Effects on New Orleans were minimal.....
Would her damage total have surpassed Andrews?
I think yes
the Damage in Mississippi was unbelieveable the worst I'd ever seen by far. She would have beat Andrew still but not by much in my opinion

New Orleans cannot handle a thing. This was "The Big One," a Cat 4 Hurricane made landfall in Louisiana.
New Orleans had to shut down for over a month. The amount of money lost is unbelievable. Just think if Miami had to shut down or your own city, can you just picture what we have went through.

I agree the big one was noted earlier this season by Floydbusters post. I mean the big one would of destroyed the sky scrapers/buildings. In flaten everythign like Andrew. In put New orleans out of business for ever. Also the computer models would of killed tens of thousands.
So this was not the big one...

Katrina was THE BIG ONE for New Orleans...flooding
destroyed much of the city...it had a CAT 5 SURGE.
Katrina was our worst nightmare come true- a vulnerable
city that lies under sea level being inundated by
surge from a hurricane.
Katrina was also THE BIG ONE for everywhere along the
Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast, because it completely
obliterated anything that was built anywhere near the
gulf coast of those areas. It was the equivalent of a
CAT 5 blowing right through LA/Mississippi- due to it's surge
This storm was a horrific nightmare scenario come true. I
pray for everyone affected by this storm.

Katrina did not go west of the city the big one kills as many as 50,000-100,000 people.NO rigth now is dry but in the big one instead of a few levees breeching the entire system falls like dominos instead of the water slowly rising it would of been like the dec 2004 tsunami where as many as 100,000 people drown in a matter of second

Floydbuster post earlier this season shown us what the real big one. Would do to New orleans...Katrina was like 3 hurricanes but she was about a Besty for New orleans. When a real cat4 moves into New orleans 10 years from now in you people have rebuilt your homes/lifes. In theres 500k back in New orleans the Big one will likely happen in kill 60 to 100 thousand people. In you would look at Katrina like your looking at Camille now.

thats what Joe Bastardi was trying to get across in his forecast Katrina is the size of Betsy but the strength of Camille while Katrina was out at sea.what i said was Katrina was a Betsy for NO,Katrina was another Camille for mississippi.Katrina was another Frederic for alabama which sums up the aftermath pretty darn well.90,000 sq miles of property damage the size of great britain.Imagine every structure in great britain damage or destroyed in one fashion or another

I highly doubt the city would have flooded like it did if it went to the West of the city. You have to remember that the winds would push the water to the Northshore and not pile it up on the Southshore, therefore no breaking of levees. Maybe in St. Bernard Parish.
I think the further Wesat course would have flooded the westbank, where I live, like the 9th Ward was flooded.

I think we can all safely call Katrina "the big one" for NO, a storm of that magnitude will only affect the city once in our lifetime, probably once every couple hundred years. A direct Cat 5 hit on NO is one of the more unlikely things to happen in the next century, barring significant climate change or other unforseen occurances, now that we have experienced such a close call.
