Police Hit Grandmother With Taser Gun Five Times
Officer Said Woman Resisted Arrest

POSTED: 1:30 pm EST December 8, 2005
UPDATED: 1:51 pm EST December 8, 2005

FRANKLIN, Ohio -- A 68-year-old woman was hit with a Taser gun by police in an Ohio city five times.

The police officer in the case, a lieutenant with the Franklin Police Department, claimed that he is the victim in the case, Columbus, Ohio, television station WCMH reported.

Beverly Kidwell, 68, was in the waiting room of the police department in suburban Dayton when the incident occurred. According to police, she came into the station to be arrested for hitting her granddaughter.

Kidwell said she waited a long time in the lobby and, when she got up to leave, the officer hit her with the Taser gun.

"I don't know if he thought I was going to get up and leave or what, but he pulled his gun. I thought it was a gun. I'd never seen a Taser gun in my life and I thought, 'Oh my God. He's going to shoot me. He's going to kill me,'" Kidwell said.

The police lieutenant said she was resisting arrest, WCMH reported.

Kidwell said she was in a fetal position and unable to move when the lieutenant ordered her to get up and continued to shock her. The woman survived five jolts and had to be taken to an area hospital.

Well since she turned herself in that makes it highly unlikely she was resisting arrest. And if she was I doubt 5 shots from a taser would be needed to bring her under control. The slideshow from the vid doesnt show any type of resistance whatsoever. Sounds like that police officer is on the wrong side of the bars. :x

I agree...and also probably the only thing the grandmother did was spank (hit) her grandchild. Then the kid (knowing how society is today!) :x probably called the law on her.

This grandma should be let go. As far as I can tell she did nothing wrong. She should not have been arrested in the first place, the little brat probably deserved to get his behind spanked. If cops are arresting parents/grandparents for disciplining their children/grandchildren, perhaps a better use of those resources would be to arrest parents/grandparents who allow their children to creat public disturbances.

Well... we don't know exactly how old the granddaughter was. The woman was 68. Assuming that she was 25 when she had her child and her child was 25 when he/she had their child, then this woman would be accused of hitting her 18 year old granddaughter. My point is: we don't know exactly the age of the granddaughter. The arrest of the grandmother could have easily been legit.

However, in the event the granddaughter was a youth... then I completely agree with you.
