Thanks everyone. 7 days from the surgery now. Being admitted on Tuesday morning for 2 days of prep prior to surgery. Not gonna go into details, because they're rather disturbing. I'm more aware of the fact that this is my last week at school, even though I do come here Monday to take 3 of my finals. And I'm not happy about it...I'll miss my school friends. :(

EDIT: Just realized I said Friday...I meant Monday...oops.

Thanks. The preps really kicked into high gear last 2 days. Started taking a new laxative to clean the intestines out good, then Monday, it's nothing but clear liquids all day. That will suck, but I'm gonna try to go out and eat somewhere Sunday night, so it won't seem so bad. Then I'm without solids until at LEAST next Sunday.

Chicken or beef bouillon cubes can get you through the days before the OR...I had to do that 12 years back.

BE CHEERFUL...attitude is 9/10 of your recovery.

Jeremy - I wish you the very best, as you know. I too have gone for long periods w/o solids, it is just not easy to do that! My longest straight run - about 9 days. 2 day prep, 7 day hospital stay. Then I came home and tried to eat, but ended up back on a liquid diet for a few more days. All together it was about a 14 day span. Without real food. Cream of celery soup is just not food, in my book! I went from a size 12 to a 4.....no lie. My advice on this is to ease back into solids, very, very slowly. Nothing spicy, plain toast, applesauce, chicken noodle soup, bananas, in other words skip the pizza and ravioli, what they served me in the hospital. My first real meal was a simple small round mound of scrambled eggs. The best eggs I ever had in my life. And I was full. My stomache had shrunk by then. Then they brought me the ravioli for dinner, to see if I could go home later. My ET nurse took one look at that meal and said what, I can't believe they gave you that food! At the time I missed food so very much, I was about to fight for it! Little did I know she was right, it was too spicy and I paid for it. So just be careful. I know you'll enjoy your last meal tonight.

Good luck and please keep in touch.

Mary

Jeremy,

The VERY best to you, Brother, and prayers and thoughts from central NC sent your way!

When I had upper jaw surgery and was wired shut in 1985 I had just liquids for 9 weeks...but the bullion, shakes, fruit juice kept me going until I was de-wired...and my first solid meal after that time period...a hamburger and fries!! :)

Thank you all. Today will be my last posting day here for several weeks, as I am being admitted tomorrow morning. I will return to the internet sometime in January (depends on how long I can sit at a time). I'll catch you all then. I'll miss all of you.
