Well Brent, what do you think about No AL/GA's chances tonight?

By the way...here's some great real time, live web-cams in the NC mountains. Good snow-watching if you can't have the real thing. ;)

Decent(40-50%) for the far northern part of GA. Tiny chance for the NE corner of AL. Only accumulation will be in the highest elevations of GA(above 2,000 feet) and I'd be surprised to see more than an inch there.

Very small chance of a few flurries in Atlanta(mainly northern suburbs), but if you sleep, your gonna miss it.

NOTHING here as usual.

I sleep. My kids sleep. We'll probably miss it. On the otherhand, it I end up staying up late and it actually decides to flurry on us....I'll post.

By the way...it started snowing up in NC around 3 pm....if you look at some of those webcams, you'll see they've already started accumulating...and the biggest part of the moisture isn't even there yet.

Could be a good sign. ;)

Check this one out: http://www.highcountrywebcams.com/webca ... Sports.htm

or this one

Looks like the snow has stopped for now...but will probably pick up again before the night is over. :D

Okie dokie....it's 29 at my house right now (which is colder than the forecast low of 30 for my area). I would suspect anything wet coming our way is going to get cold enough to be other than water. ;)

Snow flurries, maybe? Who knows. If we get them, my luck is I'll be asleep and miss 'em. I'm going to try to stay up to scout any flurries, but I am bone tired tonight. Don't know if I'm going to make it.

At any rate, no matter if the flurries show up or not, there's not much chance we'll see accumulation.

Not that I was planning on staying up... but I'm very tired as well. Very unlike me for this early in the evening(ok 11:30 isn't that early  but it usually is for me).

Watch early next week. Cold air is in place... and there's a big classic winter storm look here. Nothing to get excited about yet, but if it pans out...

Well, it's surely not going to happen now. ;)

Our local OCM Karen Minton shot it down early this AM....

Hey guys - I am a little further north than you and I am seeing NOTHING either. They keep saying snow or winter mix. WE get RAIN! I am in Cleveland, TN. I thought we would get some snow. I realize I didn't move to the snow capital but some would be nice. I am just getting mad. The other day it was 31 degrees and raining. I said HOW? I guess winter weather is all new to me. This is our first winter here. I am normally tracking hurricanes and complaining about winter in shorts. But we moved here this past March so everything is still my first. Maybe you guys can give me some insight on things and I can complain along with you.

Well, here goes:

#1 We never get snow/sleet/freezing rain when they say we're going to.
#2 When we do get snow/sleet/freezing rain, it often comes as a complete surprise to everyone.
#3 Expect to spend the entire winter staying up late for the next AFD, only to see your hopes and dreams for winter precip dashed.
#4 The one night you say "fuggedaboutit" to the AFD and go to bed early, will see you waking the next morning to accumulated snow, school cancellations, power outages, no bread, milk or other staples in the house.

Brent, did I forget anything? ;)

BTW....Welcome to the farther (than FL) north. Cleveland, TN is a really nice town. Hope you enjoy it up there.

That about covers it.

Oh and everyone gets thrown into a panic at the first mention of snow. Stores are wiped clean of bread and milk... and everyone braces like it's the coming of the next ice age.

Oh and the state shuts down at the first sign of anything.

As of now... no. There may be sleet mixed with rain Saturday Night though.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.p ... &map.y=124

As always with winter forecasting in the South, that's subject to change.

FWIW... the topic title refers to this PAST Weekend... not this one upcoming.

Off hand, I'd say no chance (unless things change drastically between now and then).

Hey guy's thank's for the info. Jeny I really believe that. I think that the local mets and the grocery stores have a deal that the mets get a cut when they sell the store out with the mention of snow.

Brent - Yes I hate freezing rain! 31 degrees and raining - it shouldn't be possible. UGH

I really do like Cleveland.

They are now teasing about rain/snow mix this Sunday. I told the kids that it was a LIE! That when I see the white stuff on the ground or falling from the air I will let them know it is going to snow. :P

What do you guys think about this coming weekend? Any chance of anything but rain?

Oh on a side note - After all our rain this past Thursday (15th) I had an eye opener. I had to be up and at the doctors with my daughter by 9:30 and there was ice on the road. First time I ever drove with ice. I slide twice and both times it was were I didn't know there was ice. It was very interesting. Scary a little but interesting.

Very slim. NWS has lows near Freezing and Highs around 50 this weekend for you, so if something were to happen it'd be brief and early in the morning most likely.

That's what's known as "black ice" here in the South. Looks like wet asphalt...but it ain't, and you don't figure that part out until you're sliding over it.

Years ago I hit a patch of black ice and hit a telephone pole. Then the police car coming to investigate slid into me....and called for a sand truck. Before a sand truck could get there, another car came around the corner/up the little hill and slid down into the police car. She (officer) wasn't a happy camper.

I don't drive in ice storms anymore. ;)
