Winter Storm for the South next week?

#1 Postby Brent » Wed Dec 14, 2005 1:57 pm

I'm getting interested now... but not excited yet.

ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, AL

http://www.abc3340.com/weather/7day.html

NUMBER THREE: This one is due in here Tuesday of Wednesday of next week, and could be the biggie. In fact, this one has the potential to bring a winter storm threat to parts of the deep south, including Alabama. Needless to say, at this phase of the game we won't even try to get specific. But, the pattern sure favors a winter storm developing over the Gulf of Mexico, then rolling up the Atlantic seaboard. All we can do for now is say "stay tuned"!

Tuesday - 12/20
Cold with a chance of rain or snow.
Low: 29 High: 39

Wind: E 7-14 mph Sun Percentage: 15% Hours Of Rain: 4
Rain Potential: 0.40" Severe Weather Threat: None

Speaking of which... Saturday Night looks like a close call here. "Chance of snow after Midnight for the higher elevations"

:slime:

FWIW... I don't think it'll be a cold rain next week. There will either be a storm or there will not be. I don't think the cold air is really the question here.

Don't know yet... as of now, I'd say there's a chance of some snow to your north(up around Greenville) Wednesday... but that's assuming there's actually a storm which isn't a certainty yet.

The 192 hour GFS develops a pretty strong storm off the east coast. It doesn't look like it would affect many areas on land, though. Also, this is the 192-hour GFS.

Yes... that's the problem. It keeps this "big winter storm" hung up near Texas and it's not cold enough for anything frozen... then completely misses the Southeast.... but it's too warm even up here. So... not only is the snow gone, but the cold air is too.  :grr:

Notice the 540 line is now all the way up near Illinois...where it was near Texas.
