Would you like Holiday Stamps?

#1 Postby coriolis » Sat Dec 17, 2005 1:10 pm

I went to the Post Office today to buy stamps for Christmas cards. I heard the clerk ask the person ahead of me "do you want holiday stamps?"

When I got to the window, I said that I'd like some stamps.

She said "would you like holiday stamps?" I said "do you mean christmas stamps?"

It turns out that the Gov't is forbidding postal employees to call them Christmas stamps.

She expressed her regrets about that, as did a supervisor that was standing nearby.

I made my point and wished them a "Very merry CHRISMAS!"

Sad isn't it

If anyone buys stamps, make sure you say something to the clerk in a nice way.

Given the current necessity for political correctness, it won't be long and the American Flag stamps that are the standard will be retired, too.

Gotta love political correctness; while espousing "inclusiveness", the effect is that it includes nothing, celebrates nothing, holds nothing up as exemplary or noteworthy.

Forget this political correctness stuff. It is not Happy Holiday Stamps. It is Christmas stamps. You can have Christmas Stamps, kwanza, and all of the other holiday stamps. It doesn't bother me but don't try to take away my Christmas stamps.

It is NOT about so-called "political correctness". People should be free to say "Merry Christmas"! Why not be free to say both, either? MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

This is complete bs. This has gone way out of hand. If the truly want to have political correctness they should allow freedom of speech - anyone can say anything they want to.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Boxing Day, and Happy New Year's to all!!!

Because people and things that used to use the word "Christmas" have now been replaced with the word "Holidays". It's not a matter of free speech... it's never been like this before.

lol^

I WISH I COULD WATCH TV RIGHT NOW :x

I just say Happy Holidays to everyone. Everyone is happy that way, plus saying MERRY CHRISTMAS to a Jew just doesn't make any sense...plus I have a lot of friends that are jewish. If I know what they are, I'll say what applies to them. If I don't, like to professors, I say Happy Holidays.

I disagree. When you say Happy Holidays, you include Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan (when it's this time of year), Happy Winter Festivus, Happy New Year, Happy Winter Break, all in one. Just to make sure you cover the base of whatever they are. I don't see how that is uninclusive...at all.

True but how do you ask for the right stamps? Don't you ask for Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah? Right. So then you should be able to ask for Christmas stamps as well. Kinda upseting for me to see all this taking place, it has gotten way out of control. As far as what you chose to tell everyone, that is your choice and I am not offended by being told Happy Holidays, but don't start changing the name of the stamps and Christmas trees.

Don't forget Yule. A person at my work is a Wiccan. She's taking days off this week rather than next week.
