Australian riots; what you didn't know
As the story develops, it's known that two Lebanese men attacked an Aussie lifeguard in "retaliation" for the conviction of a Muslim for rape, thus sparking riots and counter riots. What you didn't hear is why.
The Pakistani man accused of raping four Aussie girls, one as young as 13, was already serving 22 years for orchestrating a gang-rape, with his two brothers, of two early-teen Sydney girls; his defense was that the girls were not accompanied by men, weren't wearing headscarves or concealing clothing, and therefore he "didn't do anything wrong", citing cultural differences.
Your call, ladies and gents.

Hmmm ... that's a pretty extreme version of "blame the victim" I'd say.
I expect these guys will find "cultural differences" won't be mitigating in their favor ...

My NJ sister told me that a family of Turks moved into her area ten years ago; they made enough money here to buy a large apartment complex, then sent for their extended families.
Since then, my niece and her female friends were harassed, garbage thrown at them, etc. by the male children of this community; when asked why, the response was that "American girls are all whores" because they didn't wear head coverings, went out w/o male escorts, and had a life outside of the bedroom and kitchen.
These people, if they migrate here, have to leave their pet prejudices in the Atlantic; but I'm not holding my breath.
"Allahu Akbar", my royal blue @$$.

Oh, please! When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
When he leaves his country, he should prepare for culture shock. Get used to it, learn the ways of the natives, obey their laws, etc. Just because some tribe from somewhere in Papua believes in having sex with 8 year olds to teach them to be warriors doesn't make it right in our culture. What's right in one society may be totally taboo in another. (I really hated taking a sociology class in the midst of 9/11 and having to hear the professor say "Just because we don't agree with how they think doesn't make them wrong.")
We tell our troops not to greet or eat with their left hands and that our female soldiers can't be seen driving and all that other crap as a sign of "respect" and "politeness" to their culture. Why can't people turn around and do the same thing here? Just because we're are a big diverse melting pot of races, religions, nationalities, and creed doesn't mean anything goes.
Grrrrrr....

Still no reason to attack a whole race/ethnicity of people. Think of how many (not to be politically incorrect) Black people are in jail...can you imagine if we rioted every time they committed a crime? You can't judge a whole group of people by the actions of a few! And you certainly can't condone violence against a race of people...remember how the Jews were villified prior to WWII?

As Duckie said; we observe THEIR cultural restrictions when in Islamic countries; they, on the other hand, should respect OURS when in Western nations.
Shari'ia (Islamic law) is not the basis of our culture in the West; nor should it be tolerated when our women are violated, abused or otherwise assaulted. If WE broke their laws, they'd have no qualms about public flogging, imprisonment, or execution; yet THEY can do what they wish in our neighborhoods?
I don't THINK so.

I agree with you here, but we can't take the law into our own hands. Vigilantism solves nothing, nor does blind rage towards anyone who looks Arab. Both were occuring in the Australian incident...

Yes they were...both Aussies AND Islamic young people went over the edge there.
One does but wonder if this was an attempt to replicate the French firestorm; and/or, how long it would take for some "incident" to give Islamists an "excuse" to do it in the U.S.

there's a lot of pent-up anger in this country. It could get really ugly.
We can say that they "should" follow our laws and customs, but the fact is that some of them won't. I'm not usually a follower of conspiracy theories, but I do believe that there are groups intent on undermining our way of life. And there's no pacifying them.
Bush & company better deliver on their pledge about tightening the screws on illegals or else the future here will not be pretty. It may already be too late.

I'd like to think that you're right, Kevin, but History is full of examples of people clinging to a comfortable denial and then getting swept away by the things they were ignoring.
At best, the clash of cultures will increase as immigration proceeds and demographics change. As the Austrailan and French situations prove, there are some who will not assimilate. As they bring their own beliefs and prejudices to play in the new land it creates problems. The established citizens react with their own beliefs and prejudices. (We also have to consider the laws of the host country.) That's the best scenario.
At worst, there is a plan to "colonize" and then destabilize the West. That MAY be a bit far-fetched. Who knows, were just sheep-citizens
Either way, we're in for some rough sledding. There's no denying it.

"At worst, there is a plan to "colonize" and then destabilize the West."
All one has to do is look at the influx of Muslims into Europe and America since 1980, and the enforced social, cultural and political separation these people have chosen within their host countries; tens of millions, and still growing.
It was once thought that these people came into the West to escape persecution, and gain a better life for themselves and their families; what we are seeing within the past four years tells a different story.
IMHO, this mass exodus is NO happenstance.

I deny it, the only rough sledding we have is going to come from violations of the constitution by the chief executive and his bunch.
