I am SO mad right now
My sister called me at work about 1:30 - asking me to meet her at Children's Hospital. Her 10 year old, Robert, goes to Catholic school, and his school has taken is students from schools that were destroyed in New Orleans. Robert is small, skinny, and he wears glasses, so he has frequently been the target of bullies. Today the kids were play dodge ball - they do not have grass so they play on the cement outside the school. Robert was hiding behind this much larger boy (who is one of the new students), who got aggravated and punched Robert in his stomach, then his back, and pushed him onto the cement where he hit his head. Then another boy trips and falls onto Robert's head. The edge of Robert's glasses ripped a two inch gash on the corner of his eye - it was so close to his eye ball. He has this huge egg on his forehead from where his head hit the cement. He has a concussion and had to have stitches. The principal says "she does not foresee the other boy getting in trouble, they were playing a game!" My BIL Ricky is getting off the boat tomorrow and I think he is going to tear that school apart! The childs glasses are full of blood as well as his sweat shirt! I know that I am over protective of people I love, but am I crazy in thinking SOMETHING should be done?!

I would be all over that principal and the teacher and the school board and anyone else that was close enough to hear and see!!!! There is NO EXCUSE, ABSOLUTELY NONE for that type of behavior. JUST PLAYING A GAME MY REAR END!!!!!
In case you can't tell I was the target of bullies as was my son when we were smaller. Niether one of us tolerates it when we see it, ever!!!

Sounds like me, I was the "punching bag" for bullies, I hate it, if I could not get into trouble for it then I would of destroyed the bullies...GRRRRRRRR... They hit me and no one saw it, lies, I do something back, and I get into trouble...*rolls eyes*
I would come home with HUGE bruises on me, and mom would go to the school and complain and the person would get a pat on the hand and a "DONT DO IT AGAIN" talk, but if I hit back, well... but mostly I got the name calling version of it...

Nope, not crazy at all. Kids will be kids in the way of bullying, not much you can do, but this went WAY to far. There is no excuse for something like this to ever happen to any child. If it were my child or part of my family, I would raise hell too, until something got done. It was obviously not a game. He got punched, plain and simple and some kind of disciplinary action need to happen to this child.

If "Sister Mary Conciliation" doesn't belly up to the altar rail and have the offending kids disciplined, go to the parish pastor; HE has the final say in all matters relating to his parish, INCLUDING the school.
Go with God, go in force (both parents and a lawyer is best), and don't accept "No" for an answer.

I wish Clay Aiken was a member of S2K as he could tell you first hand, too, about bullies...as he was also a victim of one.
My prayers and thoughts to Robert and his family.![]()
I hope the school principal catches heck for her lax attitude!!![]()
Eric
I wish he was too.

I was a fairly easy target for bullies because I allowed them to get to me emotionally. You don't know how much I want to believe that the ones that picked on me and my brother in elementary school that they're all in jail right now...
As far as "Sister Mary Conciliation" (love it Bill!

"As far as "Sister Mary Conciliation" (love it Bill! ), she had better make sure that something happens to that boy, PLUS the fact that your nephew got hurt on church property. Take Bill's advice and tell the pastor and everyone else that needs to be told. Perhaps a letter from an attorney may help."
If you want the job done well, have your lawyer address the Archbishop's Office, with full particulars; nothing will get action like THAT!

Are we talking a big old fashoined cajun butt whooping?

I'm glad that he's doing alright and he's home now.

lol - Stephanie, my sister has her hands full right now trying to talk to "the men in her life"! They are very angry right now. I'm sure by tomorrow they will have calmed down and will go in there and talk rationally rather than angrily. They will get further that way I think.

Sunny, I'm glad that your nephew is going to be OK. That's one of the hardest things in life: That the bad people seem to make out better than the good people. I hope that you guys get some satisfaction out of this. It really steams me.
I thought that dodge ball was not an acceptable game anymore. At my kids school, they're not allowed to do it in gym class.
I was on the receiving end of some abuse too as a kid. My father was the asst. principal at my HS and I was marked for retribution by a few individuals. I got through it by joining sports.

This space for rent.
Cindy - I'm so sorry to hear the news as well. I was the target of bullies in grade school. A nasty group of girls made my 7th grade year miserable. But girls are different, they're sneaky. Boys just let them have it and sadly for your nephew, who was doing nothing wrong, was picked on. That's terrible. I would be very upset too. This isn't a torn shirt, skinned up knee, it could have been very serious. Thank goodness his eye is okay.
Keep us posted. Your poor family - oh my gosh, I hate to even ask, what next?
Feel for you all.

Sunny, sorry to hear what this boy is going through. However, if you are going to attack the prinicipal, school, and school board, do so in writing. I would put in a claim to the city government for the damages sustained by this boym then I would file a lawsuit for negligence, assault and battery on the other kids. This will wake them up real damn quick. Also, I have a letter that will do the trick just let me know if you want it.
Good luck!
P.S. My son went through the same thing and I bitc### and wrote and got what I wanted. Now, they do not mess with him.

Uh...since this is a parocial school under the Roman Catholic Church's venue, the municipal authorities do not have jurisdiction; unless charges are filed for assault against the boy in question, which would then place HIM, not the RC school, under the juvenile courts.
