Nephew could use some prayers

#1 Postby EDR1222 » Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:53 pm

My nephew who is 5, went into the Hospital here in Melbourne, Fl about 3 weeks ago to have his tonsils removed. Antibiotics had not been helping. Complications resulted and they saw some other abnormalities with his lymph glands. He had to be transported to Arnold Palmer Childrens Hospital in Orlando, where after several days of testing, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The doctors say the prognosis is good, but he is having a rough time with the chemotherapy and thus far cannot keep any food down, and this all has happened really fast. He is a tough kid and I have no doubt he can get through this, but I thought I would ask for a few prayers from the very kind people that are on this forum as he battles this disease through the holidays.

Thank you in advance,
Ed

Prayers are being said for your nephew. You hate to hear about about cancer but it's even harder to hear about it in a child. I hope everything turns out good for your nephew and your family, ed.

Prayers going out for your nephew. Chemo for a little boy can be so scary . He is the same age as my grandson and I can't imagine how he would act in these circumstances. Just keep him postive by telling him to imagine the disease is a big ugly monster who must be gotten rid of by the chemo and make sure he laughs often, laughter is the best medicine.

Prayers for your nephew and family coming from Jacksonville...getting his tonsils out was probably a blessing in disguise so the doctors were able to catch the leukemia early..

Thanks for the prayers everyone. You are all very kind and thoughtful.

After talking to my sister again this morning, it looks like the intial treatments are fighting the cancer effectively. Their plan is to finish the first round of treatments, then do some CT scans and blood tests, and if things are improved and they can get him to keep down his food, they may consider releasing him to where he would be able to return for treatments on an outpatient basis. Unfortunately he won't be coming home for Christmas, but we are still very thankful that the treatment, even though it is making him sick, is beginning to help.

Prayer your way from Orlando. I guess it was a blessing that he went to get out his tonsils, and they figured out that he has this, and can begin his treatment.

Poor little guy. He must be so very frightened. I'm sending prayers for him and also for your entire family. I hope they can have a little Christmas tree for him in the hospital.

((Hugs)) and prayers from the Burgh

Glad to hear the treatments are beginning to work.. even though he's going to be in the hospital for this Christmas, I'm sure you guys will be able to make it okay for him.. just think, he'll be home for many, many more to come.... :)

A couple years ago a co-worker of mine, her mother broke her collarbone and somehow the X-rays or MRI's showed up lung cancer.. she thought she was going to die... they removed part of her lung, gave her chemo and she is still here today..if she didn't break her collarbone they never would have seen the spots in her lungs. God works miracles even in bad situations.
