Driest Autumn on record!

With the end of autumn less than 36 hours away and no systems even CLOSE, the 2005 Fall was the driest in recorded history! I will finish Autumn with .03" of precip.........that's a FAR cry from the normal 4.5" So far this year, I am down 15.72" below normal and with NO SNOW forecasted for the entire winter, it looks GRIM to say the least. I hope to HADES the Gov. of Az is ready to declare all of Northern Az. a disaster area in March when the remainder of the Apache Sitgraves National Forest goes up in flames!

Much better autumn up here. At my house in the Cascade foothills (1,100 feet in elevation and 30 miles east of Seattle) we have had about 15 inches of rain this autumn and received 17 inches of snow in early December.

Although today it rained measureably for the first time in 3 weeks.

It has been active but with plenty of sunny days as well.

All in all... not too bad.

I lived in San Diego for many years. I know the Southwest in general is feast or famine.

Well.....3 out of the 4 major Mets in Phoenix this morning have declared the entire winter season a bust, no snow for us and no rain for the desert areas...SO with that said, I've have offically washed my hands of winter and come Monday 26 Decemeber, I'm putting ALL of my winter gear away and breaking out the Spring stuff

In all seriousness, I talked with the Apache Sitgraves National Forest Supervisor today in regards to some criminal damage at their office and asked him about the upcoming fire season, the Hot Shot and Engine Crews are coming on board 1 March '06......that is the EARLIEST a Hot Shot Crew has EVER been brought back to active duty!

We hit 61 unfriggin' believable degrees at 1345 this afternoon, first day of winter my butt A 82 year old record was broken.........I can live with the "First snowless winter" on record but these dam TEMPS are RIDICULOUS

Here's some info on a "NORMAL" winter for us..........as I've said, we SHOULD have 45-60" on the ground by NOW instead of 60-70° temps

Our local mets are mentioning the R word being possible by sometime next week. Which I looked at the GFS around midnight and it did show a strong cold front with a low cutting off over the SW around New Year's. So PLEASE do not say winter's over, especially when we're only on the first full day of the season. Thank you.

With only 8 days left in 2005........this is going down in the record books as the 2nd driest year in 40 years and NOTHING on the horizon...............NOTHING!!!! How can it STAY this dry, for Crips sake, this will make the "Dust Bowl" of the early 1900's look like a cake walk compared to what's fixing to happen here! It's 1310 hrs. MST and it's 65°, that's 30° ABOVE normal and it's supposed to be even HOTTER over the weekend........"Ah well, shorts, tshirt and a BBQ are on the agenda for Christmas Day now!" Might as well enjoy it, can't do anything about it, RIGHT?

Sitting here at work at one of the "Offical Recording Stations" for Pinetop/Lakeside with a WARM 58° at High Noon Sure doesn't FEEL like Santa weather feels MORE like "Margaritaville!"
