HOUSTON -- The pain at the pump is easing up, as prices for fuel at some Houston-area gas stations fall below $2, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

A gas station on West Bellfort Street at Gessner Drive was busy Wednesday night and Thursday morning as drivers filled up their cars with $1.89 gas.
"It's a godsend. I own my own business and I do a lot of traveling and driving around. With the gas prices going up, it was just cutting into my wallet pretty bad," driver Adam Sells said.
Drivers who KPRC Local 2 spoke with on Wednesday said they were excited when they found gas for $1.99.
"I was paying $2.75 a few weeks ago. $1.99 is a bargain," driver Rascine Jones said.
Many drivers waited in long lines but that didn't matter because they were saving money.
"I was calling all my friends and family telling them, 'I know where you can get gas for $1.99,'" Jones said.
AAA Texas said the reasons for the drop in gas prices include reduced demand in recent weeks and a record number of oil imports after hurricanes Katrina and Rita forced the widespread shutdowns of the Gulf Coast refineries.
In Houston, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas fell to $2.22 this week. The price dropped to $2.18 across Texas, and the national average is $2.26.
AAA expects the prices to continue to drop through Thanksgiving weekend.

Grateful jerks (sorry)
they ACTUALLY DROPPED the prices over the holiday weekend, guess since there will be NO SKI season this year they HAD to do SOMETHING to keep the locals shopping here
Hondah Resort Casino is now $2.29 for the cheap stuff while the idjuts here in town are STILL at $2.42
you can BET your BIPPY I drive the extra 6 miles to fill up!
