Weather and the Stars

#1 Postby ETXHAMXYL » Sun Dec 18, 2005 1:32 pm

I've been reading posts on the Old farmers Almanac site from a poster that goes by Theo. He claims he can predict the weather by using the planets and the stars. I haven't read enough to track his record yet, but many others say he is pretty much right on the mark.

Just wondering what anyone else thinks about forecasting with the stars and planets? Has anyone else out there read his theories or posts?

I found it very interesting. What are your thoughts?

Then we can predict 2006's hurricanes and 2007's snow

I doubt very much that you can predict weather from planets and stars because the positions of these objects in the sky are predictable years, decaded, or even centuries in advance. We can say where the stars will be in the sky in February, as well as the planets, but none of us have any idea as to what specific weather will occur in February anywhere at any date of the month. If predicting from planets and stars were possible, a Category 5 levee system would have been built in New Orleans years ago because as early as 1960, say, weather forecasters would have known that Katrina would arrive on 2005 August 29.

Didn't NO know in 1960?

If that's the case, then we should have known in 1960 that a hurricane was going to hit New Orleans on 2005 August 29. We knew in 1960 that the sun was going to be darkened by an eclipse over China on 2009. We knew in 1960 that a long eclipse was going to occur in Mexico on precisely 1991 July 11. So I made plans for it, and traveled all the way to Baja Cal. in Mexico to see that eclipse and photograph it on 1991 July 11. This is because the stars and planets' movements can be accurately predicted from a long time out.

There is no way that the weather in 2005 could have been predicted in 1960 or 1970 other than to say maybe there would be more and fiercer hurricanes because our factories and automobiles were belching forth greenhouse gases, without any specifics; we can't even predict weather five weeks in advance. If weather is determined by stars and planets and if I had lived in New Orleans, I would have moved out by 2005, just like I traveled to Mexico in 1991.

There may be a lot of problems with the GFS model, but I would pick that over the stars and the planets to predict weather.
