Heads up if you use this brand of dog food, sold under 3 names: Diamond, Country Value and Professional.

Same here, but different brand - Purina, Weight Management.

Still, can you imagine giving your dog food you think is safe? I'd be tempted to go with people food for a while, then again I don't know how you'd get your dog to eat dog food again!

Feel bad for those poor dogs that died, the ones that are sick (pic of sweet Golden in one of the links) and the owners too.

Our vet said it does not digest well in dog stomachs and could cause problems later on in life. I cant remember what our dog gets...think its purina one chicken and rice...but I could be wrong on.

Alex is 11-years old with "nubs" for front teeth (thanks to
her snacking on hickory nuts like a squirrell), so, she gets
canned Alpo "some kind of meat" & gravy. Thanks for posting
that, Mary - I'll check with my brother, tomorrow, and see
what he's feeding his dog.

Annette,

How does Alex avoid nearly choking to death snacking on those buggers?

LOL, you tell ME, Eric! It isn't uncommon in late summer/fall
to be out in the yard and hear "Cruuuuuuuunch! Snap!"

Guess who just cracked another hickory nut? Chewing away...

Look! In the yard!

It's not a squirrell...
It's not a chipmunk...

Why, it's ALEX!

Annette - you're quite welcome. Being such a dog lover now but always an animal lover before that, I had to spread the word!

Speaking of expensive dog food brands.....when Hope was under a year she was booked for a kennel stay (vacation). They used Iams so I switched her to that brand but she'd pick at it. I would drizzle it with beef broth and that helped a little. But she was really fighting me at meal times. A few months later I saw an add for the Purina flavor with vegetables, meats, etc. She loved it - maybe Chicken and Rice, or Beef? I asked the Vet at our next checkup if Purina was safe. He said sure, as long she's eating. And she was, she ate every morsel and left Iams in the bowl! So long story short, she's on Weight Management Purina but with real food flavors. And she loves it. I also add drained salt free canned green beans to each meal. A tip I read on a Golden board once. They add fiber, very little extra calories and your dog thinks they're eating people food (they are, but we've eaten these GB's and wow, they need something, butter, salt, LOL!).

My Brother-in-law has me shop for his Golden's food and he pays me later. His dog's food is nearly 3 times the price of Purina! His dog is on Eukenoba (sp?). First time he asked me to pick up a bag I didn't have enough cash and had to use a credit card! That is some expensive dog food, I tell ya!

My dogs both eat that brand of food...i found out at the pet store a few days ago that it was re-called as there were no more on the shelves and there was a sheet of paper telling people that it was re-called and listing symptoms.

I phoned the company (the phone # was on the shhet of paper) and found out that my dogs are lucky. The adult is on the Lamb & Rice formula and the puppy is on Large Breed Puppy formula. Both of which do not contain corn---Thank God!!!!!

Well since i cannot get that food anymore i just bought Purina One Lamb & Rice and Purina One Large Breed Puppy today.

The reason why we used the Diamond Brand is that they were more of an additive free dog food. (not quite organic or anything--but we felt it was a healthier brand)
