Poll: Christmas lights
I am taking down christmas lights today. One string wasn't working. I decided to just trash it without any further effort. What do you do?

I'd give it a once over for obvious problems, like missing or broken bulbs. If that wasn't the problem, then I'd probably throw it out (this assumes the whole string is not working).
I do wish that strings of Christmas lights had their bulbs wired in parallel rather than series, then there wouldn't be the problem of 1 light goes out, they ALL go out.

That was my answer. I wish I could toss the entire outdoor lot....half work, half are skimpy (bushes have grown). I had to jiggle one long strand to stay lit, when it did, I didn't turn my lights off for a few days (had company coming over)!
I'm terrible with lights! We have candles for our windows but this year I skipped them, b/c my kids often unplug them. Next year I might just go with candles, lights around my front door, a wreath on the door and that's it (outside look).

Generally if a string of lights do not work when I am putting them up, I will fix them. I have a light tester and all. If it can not be fixed I take all the bulbs out and put them in a big box I have to replace burnt out ones in working strings. When I am packing up Christmas I don't worry about what works and what don't, I will deal with it next year, just throw it them box.
