YOUR 2006 PREDICTIONS

2-A much more active hurricane season for 2006 with the first named hurricane coming in early May and at least 1 hitting NJ.

More active than 2005????

Nothing scientific to back this up, just a feeling (but my predictions are known not to come true, I've been predicting for the past 10 years the Phillies will get to the World Series )

1. The US will enter into another military conflict somewhere in the world, possibly creating (and executing) a plan to unite the Middle East into one country.
2. A moderate security breach will occur at Torino, no one will be seriously hurt.
3. Hurricanes will ravage the east coast, with a major hitting just north of Miami, a Cat 2 into Charleston, a moderate Cat 1 or a Cat 2 into NC, and a Cat 2 that scrapes the coast, maybe making a RI/Cape Cod landfall.
4. A strong earthquake will strike SE Asia, causing a moderate tsunami on the Pacific side, but there will be nowhere near the damage there was with the Indian Ocean one.
5. Storm2k will end the year just shy of 11,000 members , and gain two staff members.
6. There will be at least one terrorism attack at a major port in Europe, either in the Low Countries, France, or Italy. No terrorism will be reported in the United States.
7. Bush will have the first-ever negative approval rating.
8. Alan Greenspan's successor will not do well in his/her first year on the job, the economy will remain steady-state, if not worsen slightly.
9. We will see at least 3 major companies, excluding airlines, file for bankruptcy. None will be in the tech sector.
10. All of my predictions will be correct.

4). Mt. St. Helens erupts causing a "Nuclear Winter" effect in the Northern Plains.

5). Yellowstone becomes a "Super Volcano".

Mt. St. Helen's and Super Volcano combined could bring "Nuclear Winter" to much of the nation and other parts of the world as the massive ash cloud(s) waft along.

3.) Massive magma chambers will be discovered under portions of the NW United States that were thought to be benign. The magma is flowing in great underground rivers feeding into the Yellow Stone Caldra and is responsible for the fissures and steam holes now mysteriously appearing in the western states.

4.) Hot spots in Pacific southwest are also a result of moving magma and are the cause of many of the wildfires now taking place. Many new fissures and geysers will appear

5.) The breadbasket of the nation will see the beginnings of a new dust bowl era.

6.) The gulf stream will slow even more in 2006 and will be at the root of many weather extremes.

7.) X-Class solar flares will be a problem in the coming year and will have a dramatic impact on communications.

8.) Travel will become more difficult as gas and oil supplies become a problem once again.

9.) Bird flu will appear in the United States in 2006, first in California.

10.) The New Madrid will shift, changing the geography of the country, disrupting the transportation of goods and food shortages become an issue quickly.

11.) Large sections of the San Francisco Bay Bridge will fall into the water

12.) California will have the BIG one in 2006 and the rest of the country will fall into the ocean. Just kiddin

1. There will be a failed assassination attempt on GWB and the perpetrator will be an Al-Queda sympathizer, but an American not attached to any known cell.
2. The 2006 Hurricane season will not be as active as the 2005 season but there will be at least 6 major landfalls, including one confirmed CAT5 landfall. At least two East coast landfalls will occurr including one very near NYC as a CAT2.
3.The drought in the southern plains and SW will continue. Relief for the southern plains comes by way of a major Hurricnae strike on Texas and the subsequent rains as the system moves N.
4. The first Hurricane of 2006 will form in May, but it will not be the first tropical system which will form in late March.
5. Texas and the Southesast will see a major snow event in late January or early February. Houston will see from 2"-8" of snow depending on location in the metro area.
6.The first attempeted suicide bombing in the US will occurr but the only casualty will be the bomber due to faulty equipment.
7. The first crash of an Airbus A-380, full of pilgrims headed to Mecca' will occurr killing over 550 people in the worst single airline crash ever. Some will try to blame it on the US but it will be proven that is was an attempt by a rogue terrorist group to discredit the US.
8. Iran and N. Korea continue to be thorns in the Nuclear communities side with no quick resolution to the situation.
9. Storm2k will recieve nationwide recognition and recieve major funding from an anonymous source that will allow us to continue improving and growing. That recognition will include a buyout offer from a major private weather concern.
10. A major earthquake occurrs on the New Madrid fault but fortunately causes few casualties due to its location.

Weatherwise I expect:

1.) A warm start to the new year, but a turn to cold for late January and early February.

2.) An active severe weather season.

3.) A normal summer temp. wise.

4.) Another very active hurricane season with numbers probably in-between those of 2004 and 2005. I expect at least 2 or 3 major hurricane landfalls in the U.S.

5.) I expect one of those major hurricane landfalls to be in Texas...one to be in Florida...and one to be in NC/SC. There may also be minor hurricane landfalls in the florida panhandle and Alabama as well as the New England coast.

6.) I think (like this year) hurricane season extends beyond Nov. 30th, but the last storm should make landfall before Nov. 15th.

7.) I think at least one major U.S. city feels 75+mph winds this hurricane season.

8.) I have a feeling that this fall will be a cold one, but that the following winter will wind up near normal with warmth in the SW and cold in the northern plains.

9.) I predict a wet spring in the southern plains, enough to ease the drought in many places (this one is just wishful thinking).

10.) I expect an overall interesting weather year (many great stories).

2. Scare with nuclear warheads with Iran (something like Cuban Missile Crisis), but it turns out to be a rumor, and in fact Iran doesn't have nuclear WMD's.

3. Huge war will break out in E. Asia.

4. Large quake will rock the Cascadia Subduction Zone, but no tsunami will materialize.

5. A stray asteroid will create quite a scare but will pass harmlessly a few hundreds of thousands of mile away from Earth.

6. SoCal will have a major flooding event from February lasting all the way through April due to record rains.

7. Southern Plains remain dry and parched. Fires will continue to burn for many months.

8. Storm2k will continue to grow in size, 10,000 members by the start of Hurricane Season 2006.

9. One of the moderators here will be banned.

10. Mt. Rainier shows signs of erupting, though it doesn't erupt until January 2007, sending a huge lahar down into the towns around it.

11. Tornado season will be below normal again.

12. Hurricane season will be unusually quiet, only 10 named storms, with three landfalling storms (one of them is #1).

Nope, you got that right -- Comair flight 5191 in Lexington, 49 dead. It was still all over the news when I went up there for Christmas. The only survivor, co-pilot James Polehinke, just recently left a rehab hospital in Lexington and returned to his home in Florida.

1. A large jet airliner will crash in the US causing numerous casualties, but terrorism will be ruled out as a cause
