In memory of Bandit.

#1 Postby coriolis » Wed Jan 04, 2006 9:51 pm

We had some guests over on New Years eve, and there was some confusion about a door getting closed properly. Our two lovely pit bulls grabbed the opportunity and bolted. Our spirited girl is always up for a good time and is always the leader. The thing is, she's also wiley and can look out for ourself. Bandit was always the follower. Not exactly a doofus, but trusting. If he got loose he wouldn't go far. But once Beauty took off, Bandit was right there with her. They were gone for two nights. We called the police, SPCA, and the county 911 center. On Monday morning we got a call: "we have your dogs!" But there was hesitancy in the voice. After a long story, I realized that Beauty was ok, but Bandit was hit by a car and didn't make it. They brought him over in the back of their truck. It was so hard seeing him like that. The big baby. He had such a big heart for a dog. Definitely like one of our own kids. We took him to the SPCA and paid for a cremation. The family wanted his ashes. I think that it's a little creepy, but I went along with it. I think back about Bandit. He was such a good dog. Dang it.

Aww man. Sorry to hear that, what a sad story. At least you were able to see him one more time, and got Beauty back safe and sound. I am sure she misses him too. :(
RIP Bandit.

Oh Ed! I'm SOOO SORRY!! I know how much you love your dogs.

I felt the same way about having Derby cremated, but I actually feel comforted knowing that he is in the house with me and not buried outside in the cold.

Stephanie, I'll probably do the same thing when Rattboy goes.. I don't want to think about it, but it's going to happen someday.... I live in an apartment and if I move away I won't be near him if he is buried there.

Ed, I'm so sorry to hear this. :( I know just how you feel. My beloved dog, Lady, was hit by a car on October 25th and I miss her very much. She survived the evacuation of Rita, the hurricane in Jasper, moving from place to place after the storm, only to come home and get hit by an idiot flying in a residential area.
Like you, I saw her laying there like that, but wish I hadn't. It's just so sad.

I hope that Beauty can help you somehow. I got a puppy, thinking it might help, but the pup drives me nuts and chews up everything, bites at your clothes, and you, and is tearing up everything I own. Then I miss Lady more. I should have just waited.

Good luck to you...

I can't bear to think about my other cats. All I know is that I still want them with me wherever I am.
