Tom, lol, it must be a Pittsburgh thing - I didn't see a single movie in the theatre last year either!!!

Awww thanks Shawn!!!! Drooling....ya know, :-)!!!

Did you catch the tilt of his head too? He always has that pose....which makes him more adorable in my book.

Now if Georgie ever screws up and does somebody wrong (like Brad did), who will I have.......Cusack is a little young for me but he's cute too!

Thought of you today Shawn, Grease was on, on VH1.

Don't ask me why, but we rented War of the Worlds, mainly b/c the Wedding Crashers was checked out.

We're trying to get thru it and just got to the part with Tim Robbins (he's creepy!). Had to stop for dental appointments.

But what surprised me is Dakota Fanning's character is just flat-out annoying, a real brat!

Can see why this movie wasn't as good as Independence Day, of which I keep referring WOTW to. I'll post my final opinion, but so far I'm not overly impressed.

WOTW lost a lot of impact on a small screen. Those huge flying monsters just dont have the same scare factor on a TV. In the theatre, it was quite a different story.

Alicia - hubba, hubba @ George.......Shawn will say something similar for Olivia! And both have aged quite well, I'd say.

WOTW. Well, we finished it. Ending was cheesy, especially Tom Cruise's ex-MIL's appearance, as if she was going to a tea party or church. Wearing pearls! Now come on, did the woman not leave that house since the invasion? If not, okay then, but she should have looked shell shocked, disheveled, or something. I notice stuff like this! LOL

I still like Independence Day much better. Sorry Spielberg, didn't care for your WOTW. But it was an okay 2 hour escape. Also, you knew TC's house next to the freeway was gonna be a goner - I just knew a semi would fall below, smack dab on the house. Reminded me sadly of the 1989 CA earthquake or images of elevated interstates pancaking or crumbling.

I'm outta movies right now. But that's good, our regular TV shows are back. I have Lost tonight - yeah!!!

Wedding Crashers is the next movie rental I want to see. If I can ever find one available at Blockbuster! In the theaters, Brokeback Mountain. I know hubby won't be into it and my oldest saw it already, maybe she'll go again.

Next.......

There's a great English movie called Millions. Strongly recommend it.

The 40 Year Old Virgin was pretty good actually. I was afraid to admit that I'd watched it. I laughed a LOT. And as a warning, 90% of it is entirely inappropriate humor, bur funny nonetheless.

Eulogy was a good one too. Kelly Preston is in it and my 17 year old thinks she's the living end.

I will see Brokeback Mountain this weekend despite all of the threats from the Bible Belt naysayers here.

The Island wasnt too bad. It got horrible reviews but I enjoyed it. The same goes for Stealth. It was horribly inaccurate technically (the aircraft in the movie is named the same as one of the projects I work now...UCAV), but it still managed to be entertaining.

You sound like me, I want to see BM too, I don't care who's telling me not to. I hear it's wonderfully done and you will cry.

We also rented 40 Year Old Virgin and laughed our heads off, yes it's inappropriate for kids but we thought it was funny. The only thing I guess we didn't like was the ending - it was expected and we saw it coming a mile away. That song at the end was so cheesy but again, funny if you understand what this guy went thru to get to the end! His job, friends, too funny! I heard this actor was superb in the role and he was, couldn't imagine anyone else having this role.

Thanks for the other movie recommendations. I'll jot them down.

What I really need to do is ask members what movies from 2003 and 2004 were very funny/great, etc. because we're usually behind in our rentals. And I miss out on movies that are sitting on shelves, in the regular Comedy or Drama section, no longer with new releases.

Here are three from 2004 that I liked a lot:

The House of Sand and Fog (get the Kleenex)

Garden State

13 going on 30

The Italian Job

The Last Samurai

Mystic River (get another box of Kleenex)

from 2003:

Anger Management

The Human Stain

I dont know what year it came out, but Woman on Top is great as well as Chocolat.

This past year I have not seen a movie that really stuck in my mind as something great...so in my opinion most were over rated.
I am looking forward to the Da Vinci Code and Pirates of the Carribean:Dead Mans Chest. Hopefully these will pan out.

I've seen it three times so far. It is an excellent commentary on the art of warfare.

Just rented Wedding Crashers. The Blockbuster guys/dudes (as my youngest kid calls them) said it was really funny. ALL of them. Well, it was but it was also sleezy. So call me odd, but I didn't think it was as funny as recent rentals we all liked.

The ending was predictable too.

I didn't know Vince Vaughn was 6' 5"! Wow he's tall......I kept starring at Owen Wilson's nose...since I used to work for ENT docs! Read somewhere that he's broken it twice and after the last fx he decided not to get it fixed. Even my daughter Laura wondered - what's the deal with his nose? LOL

Also I wonder if Christopher Walken has ever just played a really nice guy before? LOL

Oh well, that movie will go back within the 2 day rental time period....despite the fact there are no late fees anymore.....
