I truly think winter is done

I'm all the way down here in GA, where we've seen one or two ice storms and *maybe* 8 teeny-tiny snowflakes in the last couple of years.

We're litterally snow-starved, as we always manage to get skipped by any system that shows promise.

Still, I am *not* ready to call winter cancel yet. We're only in the 1st week of January. Just a couple of weeks past the official start of winter.

As someone else mentioned 92-93 was a very mild winter. By the March storm, EVERYONE had called "winter cancel" here and we had out our shorts and spring clothes. And....we all know what happened.

Consequently, I don't call winter over until March 15 (at least for our area). Because anything can happen...and maybe this will be the year.

Well yes, it may be in the 70s all week for you..but if i'm not mistaken...winter continues until March 21st...that gives us a lot of time left. In a week or two..I doubt you will be as mild as you are now...prob. back to normal or below for the Gulf coast and the entire east.

i can remember last year in the Dallas ft.worth area snow fell on easter(march 28) (mainly in fort worth and a south Dallas suberb)... which doesnt happen too often.... although it can.... the latest snow in Dallas was recorded on april 14th...temps have been extremely mild in the last few weeks but that will change for Dfw and all the south plains... but from Dallas to Atlanta northward winter is not over until april 1st i think..... winter is not done yet.......

Winter is NOT over...not by a long shot. We're having a January "thaw," but, it will end soon enough....

I can say for some areas have had not winter yet but for some other people winter is in full blast.

Does a warm winter mean a hot summer? Also, does it mean an active severe storm season, we already had one outbreak on the 2nd.

No, I wouldnt say so. In fact, I know that isnt so. I remember th winter of 03-04 wasnt too cold, but the summer of 04 was bitterly cold compared to the Average highs. It was never really humid at all, and the frequency of severe weather was low. Then the 04-05 winter was VERY warm. We had 50s in February, early February. We didnt get our first inch of snow till mid January. Anyway, the jet stream pattern is all that really defines what kind of weather you get. You can have a record cold winter followed by a record WARM summer. Anything can happen.

I am getting worried that a MAJOR arctic outbreak is coming within the next few weeks. China has seen feet upon feet of snow over the last few weeks and I just saw on the weather channel that northern Japan got 10 feet of snow with their last snowfall. Northern Asia is seeing thier coldest weather in over 20 years! If this air filters into Alaska and Canada then WATCH OUT, because it could be coming for the lower 48 next. I am curious to see if anything like that plays out.

1992-1993 was a mild winter. And you know what happened in March of 93. All this talk of winter being over is aggravating because of the overflowing ignorance that people show towards history.

It WILL snow again.

yeah i think winter is going to remain mild. spring will be here before u know it. i had a feeling it was going to be a mild winter this year.

1992-93 wasn't that mild of a winter. We had a major rain-snow Nor'easter in December that left about 6 inches north of NYC but was very destructive. We had storms in each month including that famous one.

Remember the pics of falling snow on February 26, 1993, with the first World Trade Center attack?

I am calling for a arctic outbreak in mid-late to late January. I wouldnt say major, cause around here (minnesota), arctic outbreaks are common.

just saw on TWC that New Dehli is going to see their first freeze since 1935!!! Wow, Europe and Asia seem to be very cold while we are warm. This has me fearful that in 1-2 weeks, we will see a reverse (America cold and Eurasia warm). They said that the last time New Dehli hit 32 they closed schools there for days....could you imagine the U.S. closing schools for a minor freeze? lol...that would be a sight.

Im extremely concerned that we are all going to be taken off guard by some very cold weather. As some have stated before Europe is experiencing some cold weather along with japan and china. I think this air is going to take us all by surprise and alot of ppl are going to be ill due to extreme weather changes. I woke up with a cold today just from it going to one day 45 to today near 70 at least I think thats why I became ill. I often get sick when the weather swiftly changes. Does anyone agree with me on this

Yes indeed, 2005 - 2006 will go down in the record books here in Arizona as the "First Snowless Winter"!! I have not seen a cloud, a flake of snow or a raindrop for that matter since 3 Dec and THEN it was only .03"......we are now ONLY 78" BEHIND in snowfall and a total of 14.53" of precip. since October 2005............this year is going to make the Dustbowl days of 1920's and 30's look like a CAKE walk!

yeah may be for Arizona...but actually MOST of the west has seen above normal snowfall/rainfall this winter. Utah and Colorado are seeing thier best skiing in years, and the NW has gone days upon days (over 20 day stretches at a time) of rainfall. Don't worry though AZ...I heard that you guys *might* get a little relief within the next 2 weeks.

Cincinnati - high near 60 today. MLK Holiday used to take us right into our coldest, snowiest winter wx, more than half the time, if not more.

So to say this has been an ususually warm January, so far, is an understatement.

Only good news is we'll save on heating bills. Heck, our thermostat is set on 65, today's high will be near that! LOL I think I might just air the house out.

I haven't even put plastic on my bedroom windows yet, but I think that I better. February can be really nasty around here as well as March (I forget what year it was, had to be late 80's early 90's, but I remember that March weekend, it was March 12th, we had a horrible snowstorm with thundersnow and a ton of snow, I remember the date becasue of my dad's birthday, but not the year...anyone in Philly remember that one????)

To get away from the doom and gloom on no winter weather, lets look at the bright side..as well as low heating coasts...step outside...it does feel and look fantastic!


Been driving with the windows down and feels great...left my heavy coat in the car...might as well make the most of a situation.

Personally, i dont think winter is done...but i'm thinking January might well be around here. I'm not very good at model watching, particularly here in the US...but i need to see something before the end of this week to believe that something will happen in this part of the country this month and i just cant see it...so i'm almost ready to give up on January....almost!

9 times out of 10 i'm wrong though!
