Man admits decapitating dog with sword

By JIM DOUGLAS / WFAA ABC 8

SPRINGTOWN, Texas - A 20-year-old man was arrested after he admitted that he killed and beheaded a dog in Springtown in northern Parker County.

The dog was a stray dog that had a litter of puppies and that neighbors said befriended children in the neighborhood.

Eleven-year-old Christina DuPree found the dog's body sliced open and the head was left in a front yard.

"They would never feed her so I had to do something so that the puppies wouldn't die," DuPree said of the stray dog she tried to care for.

Police said the way the dog was killed was a serious animal cruelty crime.

"The dog was decapitated and the sword was stuck through the skull and the sword was stuck into the ground," said Deputy Bryan Eddlemon, Parker County Sheriff's Department.

Ricky Moore, 20, was the DuPree family's neighbor and was arrested for the dog's killing.

Sheriff's deputies said he left a phone message with the trailer park manager that described the killing.

"He explained that he went back into his residence and discovered the dog on his property and retrieved his sword and explained how he went after the dog at that point," Eddlemon said.

DuPree said the dog only growled when trying to protect her puppies.

"I called that dog 'Momma Dog,'" DuPree said. "I would always pet her."

Animal Control took in six puppies and immediately adopted out three of them.

"We have been trying to capture that dog for about three weeks," said an Animal Control worker. "She wouldn't come to anybody, [but] she would come to the little children around there because she loved children."

Investigators said the suspect said the dog attempted to bite him. Moore is free on bond, but could face up to two years in jail.

Three female puppies of the dog are up for adoption at the Weatherford Shelter that can be reached at (817) 598-4111.

That is tragic, just tragic. How someone can harm an animal like that, is beyond my reasoning abilities. My guess is he was abused as a child. But that's no excuse for torturing that poor animal.

:grr: :grr: How sad. I would be terrified to live next to this creep. If he can do that to an innocent animal without thought, then what else is he capable of. That just makes me sooooooooo angry. An innocent animal for goodness sakes, and for no good reason. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

I clicked on this thread because I did not know what it was about from the title. I knew it was something bad from the title. I can't stand reading about animal cruelty and it happens more than we think. Everyone knows how much I love animals and this just makes me sick to my stomach. There have been reports in my local paper on animal cruelty. This creep, discusting scum bag of a human being put firecrackers in his neighbors dog Spot's mouth and blew it up. Then, paraded poor Spot's body on the back of his 4-wheeler. The man lives only about an hour away from me in Galliano, LA. And they never arrested him! It is just plain sick! I should get my yorkie puppy from the breeders in another month or so. If anyone tries to hurt Chloe, they won't even make it to jail. I can promise you that.

Too bad we can't execute people for murdering dogs. This guy needs to be punished as severely as the law allows. :grr:

Dang...just Dang... (i would use the other word but don't think the Mods would like it)

Some people just don't deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of us!

ask me and i say they put a burlap sack with 3 rabid rats in it over his head and seal the bag...for about 10 hours..and then....well i'll get in trouble if i go on. :grrr:
