Wild Boar attack

#1 Postby alicia-w » Fri Jan 13, 2006 3:07 pm

From WEAR-TV in Pensacola:

Escambia county deputies had an out of the ordinary call yesterday...
They responded to a call of a wild boar in a yard in Brownsville.
A woman who lives on X street spotted the animal in her yard and called for help.
A livestock officer responded.. but the boar killed the officer's dog...
Deputies then tried to subdue the boar with bean bags and pepper spray..
When that didn't work, they shot it.
No one has figured out yet where the boar came from.

sounds almost like a Reno 911 skit. Shooting a boar with bean bags. Get real!

Even a small caliber weapon may not be effective against these wild boars. Ive seen my share of them in Louisiana. I recall one got hit by a car; the boar grunted and shook himself off and walked away. The car had to be towed. Sending a dog after a boar makes no sense either.

I remember one time while watching a Wild Kingdom show a male lion was "wrestling" with a wild boar at the boar's underground burrow...after what seemed like an exhaustive struggle over several minutes...the lion got his prize!

They had to be clinically retarded to think pepper spray would work on a wild boar. They think wild boars will just lay down after getting sprayed with irritants in the eye?

They stated this WAS an out of the ordinary call. I highly doubt anyone knew how to deal with a wild boar. Ya do what ya gotta do in a situation like that. I know I would have tried ANYTHING too!

If you have other means to deal with the animal, such as using a firearm, trying to subdue a wild boar using pepper spray and beanbags is like trying to put out on oil refinery fire with a garden hose.

I hate to hear about the officer's dog but it doesn't shocked me. If the lady lived in a rural area I could see it happen. Where I live we hear wild animals like coyote at night even though it is a subdivision but I am out in the country surround by woods.

Yeah, although I was coming from my approach to things. I probably would have done the same thing.

I am appalled about the dog though. That was unnecessary!! :grr:
